Imo there comes a point in time when DJ's have to stop fist humping or jesus posing and actually do something meaningful on the mixer instead of playing around with the Phaser or Filter

.....like? Mash up the track to a point beyond recognition and annoy everyone in the audience?

Loop random segments?

Asking a DJ not to dance or have fun is absolutely idiotic. If a DJ isn't having fun I think that sort of negative attitude toward the whole thing would translate to ty music being played and an audience who is totally not into it.

No, instead of fader slamming and mixing a track for 15 seconds, actually create a musical experience?

I didn't say anything about no dancing, or feeling the groove, or smiling, etc. I just don't like the "let me stand here fist pumping during every breakdown like a rock star" type of mentality. There are PLENTY of DJ's who barely move but you can still feel the connection between them and the audience. Oh and you can see them/crowd having a blast.

P.S. How is that dancing anyways? How is jumping up and down fist pumping dancing?

P.P.S. I guess though, if people have fun like that, then meh, let them. No skin off my back.

So NVM my hate, I fell into the "I'm better and listen to better music" trap again, where I bash people's choice of music/type of party. I gotta stop doing that :p

One must be careful during an ASOT party. The female DJ can be called a whore and get threatened if she doesn't deliver a full on trance-angelic-like-Armada-holy-uplifting session.

You thought trancefamily was all 'n'giggles? It's the uplifting mafia.

^i agree with this guy.
i think there's a difference between dancing/enjoying playing your set and focusing more heavily on image than music. (i'm not saying ksky is doing this/does this/i haven't even watched the video)

that's cool that she played your track at asot - congrats on that.
when i've seen her open up parties she isn't really my cup of tea, but to each their own.

///edit - i was agreeing with chris101

Seandroid, if a DJ that I see playing doesn't make a heartsign, I want my money back.
How else am I supposed to feel CONNECTED?!?!?!

I remember seeing sasha and pvd back to back at an event more than 10 years ago and i swear to god the only time either one ever looked at the crowd

No said for the dj not to fn enjoy himself. Im talking about standing like a moron and fist pumping to the crowd like some bloated rock star. the scene has turned into some ridiculous prog rock band from the 70s with morons just staring at the stage and either jumping up or down or putting their hands in the air. its beyond annoying. at the end of the day the dj should be there so that the crowd dances and interacts with each other and not to draw attention to himself for stupid reasons. look at that crowd, how the is anyone enjoying themselves in that crowd? bunch of unicorn trancecrackers putting their hands up in the air and looking at that dumb dj fist pumping, and no one is dancing.

Please, because I like you Sean, Google "Strawman Logical Fallacy". Then stop using them. You're making such a superficial assumption about what people are thinking in the posts you're replying to. It seriously looks like you don't know what you're talking about and are lashing out because what they're saying interferes with your own perceptions.

Did you even read the post I was replying to?

"god i miss the days when the dj didnt dance in front of the crowd like a moron. I remember seeing sasha and pvd back to back at an event more than 10 years ago and i swear to god the only time either one ever looked at the crowd or acknowledged anyone was when they waved goodbye after finishing their sets. "

I didn't pick any "superficial statement," he specifically said he misses the days when "the dj didn't dance in front of the crowd like a moron" and then goes to talk about how it was better that Sasha and PVD didn't even address the crowd until the end. In what way is that better, and what the hell constitutes "dancing like a moron?" Why the do you care how the DJ presents themselves or how they happen to enjoy themselves? If you expect the DJ not to look at you and you find the way the DJ is dancing to be *oh so offensive to you,* then don't look at the damn DJ and just listen to the music!

"No, instead of fader slamming and mixing a track for 15 seconds, actually create a musical experience?"

What does that even mean, though? Isn't the most important thing track selection? I mean, you could say it's unfortunate, but in the digital DJ age there are often times where the DJ simply doesn't have anything to do.. That's why when you said "actually do something on the mixer" I was like "Do... what?" Creating a musical experience for the audience has way more to do with track selection than anything else.

And I didn't mean to lash out at you, I thought you were the same person I'd previously replied to, I wasn't paying attention, you didn't say the DJ shouldn't dance or have fun but the other guy literally implied that DJs should be stoic and not pay attention to the crowd whatsoever like PVD and Sasha.

Well, if enjoying yourself includes "dancing" then that's exactly what you said. Maybe she enjoys herself while she's apparently "fist pumping like a moron." And maybe that audience does too. Just because you don't enjoy something doesn't mean you get to project your values onto everyone else. People may have danced at raves in the 90s but they were also tripping balls and had so much ecstasy running through their veins they likely forgot how to move their ing arms in the first place.

Plus, you're confusing a club environment with an event environment... in most clubs people DON'T pay attention to the DJ, even today, because it's not the same thing as being at something like Ultra where you're seeing someone you paid a lot of money to see.... And christ, what's wrong with paying attention to the DJ? It's at least as interesting as watching some pop star flail in the middle of a stage as you sit in stadium seats 3,000 feet away from the stage as you try to understand what the hell they're singing through all the reverb...

If people enjoy themselves, let them enjoy themselves.
