Hey Spin what did you think of Fedde's set? I think went 4-5 times back in the house room to see some friends and I must say he was playing some bomb tracks.

Schulz at Stereo would be epic. He's labelled as being the trance genre but guys like him and JOOF should be allowed to step foot in there

I missed the entire set, that's how good the Schulz set was
Just putting a plug for the last Blackout, May 4.. BeB threads get a lot of eyes so just doing a plur plug for that event :p |

Bal en Blanc 2012:
arrived at 11pm, and was inside the party within 20 minutes (coatcheck and search included) .. pretty damn awesome compared to other years.
in retrospect, I wish I had arrived in time for Paskal & Vessinlov, considering what I heard in the house room until Danny T came on ... definitely not my kinda house ... jacques lu cont was interesting and fun actually ... angello played exactly what i expected, commercial cheese trancey house ... tried the trance room, but Angello was the lesser of two evils when compared with the vocal crap AVB was spinning ... fedde le grand surprised me with a some old school tracks I didn't expect to hear ... i think they were new remixes, but still pretty cool ... oh yeah, and Angello's circuit party sit-in was kind of ridiculous ... i certainly didn't sit on that dirty floor, but knelt down to be one with the masses I suppose ... noticed some prissy bitch right at the front who just kept standing though, kinda funny ... a lil annoyed that I was waiting for 7am for Danny T, and he didn't come on until like 745 or 8 ... I think it was advertised as a 5 hour set, non? ... as people have said, he did bring the full spectrum of house music in a way that Tenaglia can only do! ... it was a great way to finish off the night
washrooms were really disgusting, i feel so bad for the girls who have to put up with that!
and alcohol lineups were awful and bartenders were total tools ... i saw a few of them on their fukin blackberries while they have a lineup of people in front of them... waited in one line for 15 mins only to get to the front and have the guy say he was out of beer ...he could have reached over to the stand beside him and grabbed some from there, but no, he decided to be a dick! ... if you are going to charge 8.75 for a molson dry, have your bars stocked!!! and replenish when needed!!! FFS! ... then waited in another line close to last call, got up to the front, and the managers cut it off right as I got there! ...meh, guess it saved me $20 in the end!
didn't see any OD's, which is always nice, as it can really with your mood and vibe ...i'm sure there were some, but thankfully I didn't see it.
this was a much straigher bal en blanc than last year ... the gays had a lil area on the left of the house room, but I didn't see much of a bear country going on ... guess alot went to Peter @ stereo |

Here's my review:
The organization/lighting/sound/security was all so well done this year. I must give props to Playground for organizing such a smoothly run party. Of course there were lineups, of course, but how can there not be with close to 15k people? Same goes for the bathroom situation. The 8.75$ for a beer was ridiculous but this price wasn't set by Playground but by Palais de Congres instead.
House room:
P&V - Played very well.
Arty - Way too hard, way too fast for his slot. This isn't your party, Arty. Hey that rhymed!
Jacques - Interesting mix of styles. Slightly obscure, amazing at parts, cheesy at others.
Angello - Played exactly what I expected him to play. People seemed to like it. *shrugs*
Nadia Ali - No comment.
Fedde - Not really Fedde's fault but he disappointed me. I was just tired of hearing the same anthems over and over.
Danny T - Danny T saved the house room. I'm happy Bal en Blanc went with this formula because I think a lot of people were impressed by Danny after 6 hours of electro pop cheese. Awesome... just awesome. I loved his sarcastic, "Let's give a warm applause for Fedde. Bravo"
Trance:
Not really a trance guy but:
Armin - Started off cheesy before he transitioned into harder almost tribally tech-trance
Markus - Stole the show as usual. A+++
Ferry - Cheesy and predictable. But it's OK people liked it.
So overall I give the party a 9/10. Much better than last year and some great room to grow for next year. |
