if you havent been there when they crank it there is really no point in debating it.

and yes I realize that when looking at the simplistic sound gauge it compares 160db to a rocket being launched.

It was simply the most intense sound system I have EVER heard indoors. Like a concert outdoor rig placed indoors except louder. Way louder than the old docks in Toronto. Way louder than the old nation in DC, way louder than club space 34 miami when it opened in its new location in 2003 (which back then had a sound system so intense you couldnt talk in the bathroom, to put in perspective the main room actually has 1/3 of the speakers it used to). Louder than amnesia Miami (which has the second loudest sound system I have ever heard indoors), Amnesia Ibiza is no match. Avalon in LA doesnt come close, no Vegas club comes close

And honestly I think it was louder than when I saw guns and roses and metallica in 1992 that had an outdoor sound system so loud that the lyrics could be heard 20 miles away

avalon needs a new system. their system is outdated and distorts the highs everytime. i always come out with my ears ringing for at least a day because of that.
marquee in vegas got funktion ones all around, but its not that loud really, it could be turned up a tad i think but my ears are never ringing the next day. always a good sign.

heres a vid of carl cox @ space opening in 2010, says hes playing at 104db http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H84_bk6Mpvg

i went in 2009, 2010, and 2011.... and now going in 2012. It was a big difference in 2011 compared to the other two years previous. I will bring a portable DB unit I have good up to 150db. I am pretty sure it will peg out unless they decided to size it down (understandably).

The 2010 opening party was outdoors in the parking lot (as is every opening and closing party till 12 midnight, then they move it indoors). Its really hard to exceed high outdoor sound pressure levels outdoors

they are supposed to be updating their sound system in a couple of months. The "john lyons series 2, eaw sound system".

This is the new Avalon by EAW CLUB.two and CLUB.three series. They look pretty sick, and I'm sure they'll sound amazing.

Woody - they had those at the Delano pool party I co-sponsored at the WMC.... John actually stopped by to check them out. Pretty darn loud I gotta say.

Awesome! That was the first venue EAW tried them at, so consider your self special! hahaha

From what I've read so far, they're supposed to be very exclusive, high end and hard to get. They're supposed to be equal to or better than Funktion 1. I even read that if you wanna purchase them for your club, you have to submit a proposal and EAW has to approve it. Once EAW approves your proposal, they'll make the speakers to your specs and they'll install and tune them. That way they make sure it meets the very high expectations of this system. Only then, will you get certification from EAW saying your clubs is an AVALON by EAW Certified Club and that you have an exclusive high end system. They even give you a plaque.

I love Funktion Ones, but they have to be tuned well or it sounds like crap. A lot of clubs put them in and don't keep them tuned and it sounds awful until they bring someone in to re-tune.

I remember when Mezz first got their system, it would be amazing and then get worse and worse over time until they brought the FO guy in (from Vegas I think) and retuned.

what i don't get is that once a system is tuned properly, as long as no one touches any of the settings wouldn't it not need any future adjustments?
