Fair enough but that's what Dubstep was as of a few years ago. (I know haters gonna hate).

As for this Festival, meh, hopefully it'll be a better line up but it's no skin off my back, I'm in Europe until the 6th. :p

Eventually mainstream interest will move away from EDM and back to something else. When that happens there will be so many producers from various genres who will be trying to find that new big sound with new big technologies....this will be the start of a new age for EDM that will be like nothing any of us have ever seen before. I see a bright future for EDM once this cloud is lifted.

Well it's getting massively raped by commercialism at the moment so I believe it will move away from that to something as well.

All I can say is the moment I hear an aphex twin song on daytime radio (or DnB) is the day hell froze over.

If all you can see in the EDM landscape right now are these producers and these festivals, then you're definitely missing the forest for the trees. I don't think EDM is suffering at all right now. There's a big pool of artists doing increasingly interesting, ground-breaking stuff, and I don't think they're being affected by this mainstream craze one way or another.

Production standards are going up, distributing music and getting a following has become easier, and people are becoming increasingly inventive.

ChemEnhanced, what you're looking for is here now. It's not even that hard to find. Whether the artists you like now or idolized in the past are a part of it is a different story. I've got no idea. But there's certainly no shortage new ideas around these days.

It sounds fun, even thou i don't like patying next to 14 or 16 year olds lol but hopefully both of these festivals are successful...

but come on we all seen EDM moving into the main stream years ago and this past year it really started to pop and its going to get even bigger in the next few years... it just needs something to ignite it and kick it into over drive... If your old enough you would have lived thru this in the 90's with hip hop music...

i have a feeling veldt will have more larger names then digital dreams.... but i think digital dreams will be better musically... that Art Dept. beach party sounds dangerous... lol

I wouldn't hope for the end of this EDM mainstream trend too quickly. Probably every 1 or 2 out of 10 that discovered EDM through the mainstream fans will eventually delve into other subgroups to enjoy and attend events of artists and producers that some of you like. The pie is growing and everyone will benefit from this.

This is a very exciting time for EDM fans with so much interesting music being released every day via beatport.

From my understanding there was a recent change in municipal legislation that made it much easier to have this sort of event.

I also think this has to do with organizers being able to have increased alcohol revenues as a result of the change in provincial liquor laws last year.

This is true as well. :)

You're definitely right. Just the term "increased revenues" is magnetic for organizers such as Ink and LiveNation. It's like that that give them chubbies in the morning.

This is great news. Although I won't be going, the more electronic music festivals in Toronto, the merrier.

i can't wait for the Very Electronic Land Dance Music Festival.

Maybe the city was hurting so much for cash, that Ford said ' it, let the hippies have their party, just make sure to take a nice cut off the top.'
