sidechain ducking without compression (Logic)

Hoping to find a way to achieve the common ducking effect only without coloring the sound with a compressor, just looking for a change in volume not dynamics. Like for instance if I wanted to preserve the space of a layered baseline and route it into a bus along with the kick and then put that through a glue compressor. Or simply create rhythmic effects to a sound without squashing it kind of like a synth's amp filter. Just want to be able to trigger that ducking effect without the use of compression.

Logic's 'Ducker' won't work because it forces you to monitor the sidechain input signal

After much googling I've heard the term "reverse gate" thrown around but there's no way to achieve this effect with both noise gate and silver gate

tons of results for the waves vocal rider BUT apparently the sidechaining functionality doesn't work in some daws, something about VST3

any ideas?

might as well automate the volumes

im not automating the volumes

Essentially thats all you'll be doing but suit yourself, its so ing easy to do in reason.

Can't you have a dummy track that triggers the ducking without being summed to the master channel?

Instead of doing that i'd just use a noise gate and move the sidechain signal over half a beat or whatever just so it triggers in the right spot.. will probably end up doing that but I wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas

That's what I meant by Logic's Ducker monitoring the sidechain input, you can't turn it off so it's kinda worthless in that respect. It's built for like live voice-overs and it only works on an AUX channel.. weird how they set it up like that

you don't understand how a compressor works. You also don't understand what dynamics are. And a reverse gate is a compressor or possibly and upward expander. Either way , it isn't a term people use. So get a book and learn these basic tools. It will take you 30 minutes.

gate is to expander as
limiter is to compressor

and expander does the opposite of a compressor. They both change the volume thus affecting dynamics.

But ya, automation is clearly the best way if you don't want to colour the sound. AUtomation is always the better choice. Anyone that knows what they are doing will tell you this.

Deadmau5 uses LFO tool as designed by himself and Steve Duda. It just automates the volume for you as opposed to relying on a compressor reacting the the shape of a kick drum.
