What is a "white label"

Hello
Whenever a single is released.. ive heard people say.. its a white label......what exactly does it mean? Does the record literallly have a white label on it.... or is it a music industry term? Are there any other labels that i should be aware of? Please educate me....

it MIGHT have a white label on it, but basically it means that the song/artist isnt signed onto a label.

White Label = The tune isnt signed to a record label yet. Usually in a white sleeve or black sleeve hence the name.
Promo = The tune has been signed to a record label.. and a few are handed out to DJ's in order to get feedback
General Release = Everyone can buy one :D |

white labels doesnt neccessarily mean its not signed to a label.
record labels send out white label test presses to a few djs and are the ones i find are most commonly quoted as 'white labels' :eyespop: |

| Also for the new producer who is looking to secure a deal, having a few whites pressed will help him hopefully get it out & about & see how it turns out |

White label usually means it aint signed to a label. But you may see tracks like on tracklisting shown ad white label, when they are singed up2 a record labe, as the DJ is still spinning the white label :)
Tracks can sometimes be modified when signed, so beware, lol |
