umm, no. Bad advice.

99% of producers are doing it so they CAN go out and make the money DJing. Never heard of it the other way around, unless they are worn down after a decade of touring and beginning to consider a slower paced lifestyle. Your shelf life as a money making DJ, should you get there, is very brief. Any half whitted DJ would take full advantage of the opportunity while they can.

Lol, I was in a cafe yesterday and the EC twats were sitting next to me. Pretty sure they've got bad hearing damage as they were speaking 10 times louder than anyone else, including the people they were sitting with. They really need to lose the hats and eyeliner.

So my friend ended up getting my friend & on the VIP list for the "opening" night which was yesterday. I believe tickets for GA were 50-75. Got there around 10pm and the lines were already pretty long. 2 lines to the right of the entrance and 2 on the left. I was told by a bouncer that the line against the wall to the left was VIP and after 40 minutes of waiting when I get to the front some other bouncer told me it was on the opposite side. Basically, the bouncers knew nothing and everyone was pissed off and flopping around everywhere. I didn't get in until midnight! Cops came and had to get everyone off the street and whatnot.

Anyway, the place had a pretty open dance floor with seats & LED screens against the walls and the patio outside reminded me somewhat of a jungle with the greens walls and plants. Wolfgang played his hits like 'Redline', 'We Own The Night', 'Undertaker', etc etc... and prog. house, nothing special. In conclusion I had a good time but it was too packed and too chaotic with rude people everywhere. Maybe i'll stay away from club openings or Hollywood period. I haven't been to a Hollywood club since last year and now I know why.

That's your mistake for thinking the bouncers know whats going on. 99.999999999% of the time they don't.

They THINK they know whats going on about 80% of the time.

always look for the person with the clipboard if you are on someone's list.

We did. He was at the main entrance where all 4 lines met and the club had reached maximum capacity and everyone was yelling at him. I think his name was George? He was really aggravated and pissed off.

Lure closes at 2am. Yeah it was a ing mess getting in, even cops were outside trying to get everyone on the sidewalk. But yeah it was fun inside :) Hopefully I have more fun at Bad Boy Bill & Tristan Garner tonight at Supperclub.

Joey is BIG nowadays.

BP - you have to apply separately to get a 4am permit when you open a nightclub/lounge. I don't believe anyone will get one anymore in Hollywood (why Supperclub closes at 2). But clubs that had a 4am closing time before usually can be grandfathered in.

I forget the offical closing time there but I **think** i've been in that venue after 2am.

well just to be more clear, Joey isn't big, Wolfgang Gartner is.

yes the 4am permit is separate from the normal permits. actually, it isnt hard to get it. BUT clubs like Lure which are there for the money dont want to apply for it coz its pointless since the club doesnt earn since the bar is closed at 2am. Cabana always did 2am closing coz it was an open air venue (so more of sound issues), so they moved the party to Green Door where I've thrown a few events until 4am (i.e. Phil Hartnoll of Orbital, Reset Robot, etc) where all you need is to open the door to both venues.

grandfather licenses are that, old licenses, and you cant get it anymore unless you buy it from clubs who had it before - like Avalon, Spot 5750(they are closed but still own the grandfather 24hour license), Los Globos who bought Burgundy House, Avalon and Ecco. There maybe a few others too, but thats all I know.

heh just calling Joey that instead of Wolfgang as BP loves to do that with dj names lol.

I disagree its easy to get the 4am permit... if it was then Supperclub would have gotten one. What i've been told is that you can apply for one but there would probably be so much resistance against it by other club owners and neighbors that its basically impossible to get a new 4am permit. Playhouse and Supperclub are probably the only 2 'new' clubs we'll have in Hollywood in a long long time due to the resistance factor.

Never knew 5750 had a 24 hour permit. I wonder who got the one from the old A.D venue on Highland. The Shark Club downtown had a 24 hour license as well. Can't think of any others myself.

Btw if anyone wants to buy the Belasco its for sale for $22 million :)
though its on a long-term lease to the operator for $1.1mm per year until 2019 and you have to honor the lease so no starting your own club there... its basically just a income-producing property for an owner.

Supposedly the old Element will open with a 4am permit.

Hmmm... just remembered the old Forbidden City....did they have a 24hour permit or just open at 6AM sunday mornings?
