Oh man, he played until 3:35am! You missed the end. He did this ing crazy wall of sound with FX to close it out.

I had a great night, and once again, Cox proved why he's one of very few truly credible and talented people in the EDM scene right now.

I don't think he wasn't quite as good as he was a Drai's in Vegas last weekend, but that was a 5 hour+ set in a really intimate setting and in fairness I think the difference was really crowd and venue related, not him as much.

Here's my roundup:

Pros:
-Carl Rocked it, came on the decks 30 mins early (and about 1 minute after I walked in the room upstairs so my timing was ing perfect)
-Venue was really great - quite a beauitiful Art Deco building and look both clean and well maintained.
-Getting in was so painless with tickets - literally less than 2 mins and the door staff was polite and friendly.
-Soundsystem - Funktion One - 'Nuff said.
-It stayed open a good 30mins so we got a full 3 hours of Carlito.
-The crowd was happy and quite up for it*, not too many glowsticks/candy crap all over the place.
-Bars had fast service
-Toilets were clean and never rammed.
-$10 parking was literally directly across the road. From the music stopping, I was in my car 3mins later.

Cons:
I HOPE INSOMNIAC OR OTHER PROMOTORS SEE THIS SO THEY STOP PUTTING COX ON A STAGE AWAY FROM THE CROWD.
I hate it when Carl is separated from the crowd - he doesn't perform as well (you can see it) and if there's one DJ on this planet that needs to be close and with the crowd, it's carl. I've seen him two dozen times in the last 16 years and every time when the booth is on the floor is a completely different (and markedly better) experience- all around. He's not one of those gormless fistpump DJs that need a stage.
- Security in the club were moody as just looking for people to have a go at. They kept spot flashlighting people on the dancefloor just to make them self conscious or with them. I asked the guy what he was playing at and he stepped to me, then he realized I was completely sober and he couldn't with me in the same way so just told me to mind my own business before walking off.
- The crowd, although up for it, started to peter out at 2:30am. By 3am the balconies were virtually empty and by close even the dance floor was at about 60%. Those who were up for it, were really enjoying the night which was great but there must have been either a lot of noobs, lightweights and part timers there who left after the bar closed. There were even a fair few city types in bad suits getting bottle service and they looked completely out of their element.
- Stage dancers were crap and really just detracted from Carl being able to engage with the crowd.
- No diet coke at any of the bars except for one. WTF?

Overall, a really great night once again with Coxy, in a great venue with a good crowd, and well worth the $40 tix.

I really hate this. Had to deal with it when I saw Magda at Dim Mak last weekend. I was totally sober that night also, but it still annoyed me and made me feel self conscious. It detracts from the experience- having these guys muscle their way through the crowd and shine their flashlights at everyone, no qualms about bumping anyone out of their way.

I can understand why security types think it's a good idea, but don't the club owners know better? It's one thing to turn a blind eye as drug use runs rampant in your club but another thing entirely to make people feel like they paid good money to be babysat.

I thought it was a tad louder than it should be and the bass almost clipping.

And there were quite a few people smoking on the dance floor and one security guy chasing them.
