It's always nice to explore the history of a certain sound. A lot of classic tracks from the mid to late 90's are mainly goa, or goa-influenced psytrance. A lot of times I'll listen to classics sets and be bored to tears with the lack of variety in some tracks. In this mix, I play a collection of weird music from early psytrance artists that broke the mold and pushed forward a style that was just a little different than everything around them.
Note: A couple of the transitions are not so great, but it shouldn't detract hopefully. Also, if anyone is concerned about the Infected Mushroom track, think back and remember how boss Classical Mushroom was. Yeah, that's right.

The old school tag intrigued me to listen. I was forced to leave my comfort zone when I listened to this mix, but it's still good music.

interesting. I wonder if psy trance is linked with psychedelic drugs or some kind of inferno setting. I've never tried magic mushrooms or acid so maybe I would've lost it in a positive way if I was on that kind of trip while listening to Obscure Alchemy. |

Psytrance is partially designed for drugs like acid and mushrooms. The perception of the sounds are severely distorted to an almost alien-like sense, as if the sounds you are experiencing are from another world entirely. That's not to say the music can't be enjoyed without drugs, but the drugs certainly provide a different musical experience.

The mix was pretty good and there's lots of not your typical goa in there.
No Astral, MFG, Hallucinogen, Etnica or Plaedians heh.
As for the link between psy and drugs, absolutely, some things I've been to half the dance floor has been on acid at various times. That and most if not almost all the producers have done it at some stage and so the music is heavily inspired by it. I found the first time I did it I recognised a lot of the emotions it makes you feel simply due to feeling them from psy I've heard at various times. An ex of mine also couldn't stand it till she heard it while on acid. I guess some stuff is mushrooms influenced as well but to a lesser extent. |
