i disagree... a lot of people at that party just wanted a fun Sat afternoon pool party at the Cosmo... and apparently Farina didn't deliver what they wanted. I'm sure 90%+ were NOT there to see Mark play they just knew that Marquee is a fun afternoon pool party. So the club did what they had to do... remember if the crowd was loving his set this would have never happened. |
Maybe this is me: as a promoter with a signed contract, unless the DJ is completely incompetent (i.e to drunk to do his job) or not delivering a performance that you SIGNED a contract for -- tough why you shelled out your money without knowing. I don't care if its LeBron James, Paris Hilton or anyone else, they'd still get the finger for having too big an ego.
And I'll say it again -- if you go to a pool party without knowing what's being played or whether your taste choices will be met, its on you, not the venue. For a venue to cave to people in VIP is absurd, not matter if it is their method of profit making. As a venue / promote, you make your name and your image, not the people that attend. You make good times, then people come back. I've seen it happen way too often -- there are two types at venues: those to enjoy, and those to be seen. The later is what is ing up clubs.
I stand by my point -- your an idiot for not doing your research VIP dude, and your a jerk for hassling the club to get the "DJ I don't like" off stage.
By your logic, if I walk into a Skrillex show (never would because he is absolute rubbish), I'm allowed to tell the venue he is rubbish and should be kicked off for some local guy to play house? Bullox good sir, bullox. |

not the first time this debate has popped up (see Dennis Ferrer earlir this year at Mansion as another example of the same). though in that case Dennis said he was going to 'educate' the crowd with deep house which is what didn't go over well and got him the boot.
I'm just defending the club's right to pull a dj that didn't seem to be winning over the crowd with his set. Marquee is in the business of making $ and that trumps having cred in the EDM market IMO. If too many people paying $5K are not happy, i say the club did the right thing.
I would be nice to hear from someone who was actually there to give their take on what Mark played and their opinion of it.
I'm sure Mark got his full fee anyway so really is it that big of a deal? |

It's obviously a clash between typical Vegas culture and EDM culture.
In Vegas, the high rollers rule. What they want, they get.
But with the EDM scene, it's not just "going to a club" for us. We're going for a specific performance/type of music. Kind of like going to see a band.
Seems like Vegas tends to treat it as "The club is the draw, not the DJ"... but then they turn around and book big-name DJs... so there's definitely a clash there.
It's bad for something like this to happen right before EDC, though. No way Vegas will ever even come close to WMC unless they put the music first. |

I don't think Mark ever went on....
Mark Farina @djmarkfarina
Supposed to be going on now...but got the boot, apparently too much house for this Vegas crowd. |

| ing bottle service jerkoffs. If you're going to go see a world class dj at an event try not to act like a world class jackass because you think your bank account affords you that right. |
