I just posted this on FB, but I might as well do it here too.
Are Sandisk any good? I only want a small one for Win7 and Photoshop, so 60GB should do it, right?
Thoughts?
Intel SSD's are more expensive, but is it worth it? All my camera CF cards are Sandisk, and I've never had any issues. An SSD is basically a large CF card, right? :p
Edit: Kingston is an option too. |

| My little Zenbook has a Sandisk 128G in it and its ridiculously quick, boots up in about 10-12 seconds, hasn't broken yet. I'd go with 128G unless you intend on having a lot of external drives, (more annoying than anything else) as there isn't a lot of change out of 60G with windows 7 and all the other little bits and pieces that add up very quickly. |

| I've recently had some trouble with Crucial SSDs at work. Intel always worked fine, but of course we didn't care about costs so much. |

| I have a 120GB Intel 330 series ssd as my system drive. I've heard the 520s are amazing but I can't say I've seen an improvement over my old RAID with the 330. |

Intel and Samsung are safe bets.
Sandisk Extremes and Crucial M4s are good shouts for less money. |

| I just got the new 250GB Vertex 4. One of the fastest drives out and is worth every penny! Love it. |

Its a known fact that Intel's SSD drives are the most reliable. They have the lowest failure rate of any of them. If reliability is more of s concern than speed (as it should be) then go with an Intel SSD drive. If you crave speed more than reliability, OCZ makes the quickest ones with at a great price. However, OCZ have the worst failure rates. I wouldnt buy one, although a lot of people are happy with them.
Samsung's drives are great too, particularly the 830 series. If not Intel, I'd probably go with Samsung.
I run an Intel 320 series on my Macbook Pro. Its a 120gb drive and I've had zero problems with it. The only thing that bugs me is that because I'm on a mac, doing a secure erase on it is a bit troublesome. SSD drives really are as fast as the reviews state them to be. Its a world of a difference. If there was a single upgrade to do for any computer, getting an SSD drive everyone would immediately notice, its almost like getting a completely new computer and one thats much faster. OS X boots up in about 10-12 seconds, Photoshop in about 1-3 seconds. However, I only use the SSD drive as my main boot drive, all my documents, music, movies and porn are put on a secondary internal drive (I replaced the optical drive with a secondary 1TB drive in my laptop).
SSD drives can fail, so don't expect them to be 'the holy grail' of drives out there, but they are amazing.
I would recommend getting any of the Intel drives that suit your budget. The 320 series drives used an Intel controller but the new 330 and 520 series use a Sandforce controller, which is weird because afaik, all of the OCZ drives with bad failure rates had Sandforce controllers as well. It looks like things have been patched up and I would trust Intels quality control far more than anyone elses.
Good luck. |

| Go with Intel man. I have a 40 gb 320 in my desktop and a 120 gb one in my laptop. Both work very very well and they have a 5 year guarantee. |

Thanks for the replies, everyone.
Ok, I think I'll go with an Intel 60GB drive, if they're going to be more reliable. The only slightly annoying thing is that it's SATA3 and my mobo only supports SATA2, but it should still be fast as even with the bottleneck.

I have two 1TB regular drives installed, and 3TB worth of external drives as well - I just want the OS and Photoshop to be faster, so that's all that will be going on the SSD. |
