I would be surprised if most DJs really cared about safety like Van Halen was...
I don't know, given how high tech the productions are nowadays, I can see that being important.

You have to have been on tour to get it.
Socks are always the first article of clothing to get icky on a tour, and the first and best one to change to feel a bit fresh. When you are on a plane all day and immediately go to a venue/gig and then back out, your feet are gonna be really sweaty from being in your shoes all day, especially if you have no access/time to shower that day. Changing socks means all the difference in the world to feeling a bit more normal and not dirty.

Drew... i think you should pack an extra set of socks in your carry on. Rot foot is a horrible stench.

I think that's a legit reason, but these clauses in riders are supposed to be to make sure that the promoter/venue reads the contract in detail. Not to get the promoter/venue to dish out all this extra stuff when they are already paying the talent.
BTW, DJs could easily, and in a tight space, carry two pairs of socks in their bag they carry around for each gig. Put extras in the suitcase for later use. Not hard. No excuses.
That said, these riders are not that bad overall, and seem to have really been toned down compared to some years ago! I just don't like how artists (not just DJs) have turned what was supposed to be something simple to make sure everything was read into something to get more out of what they are already being paid. It's the artists' choice to travel around.
But you know what? The promoters and venues give in which just gives the artists more power....so while I might not like it and don't think it's highly moral, I have no complaints.
THIS POST IS OF MY OWN ACCORD AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY GROUP/CLUB/CREW/PROMOTER/DJ THAT I MAY OR MAY NOT BE INVOLVED WITH. HELL, I'D PROBABLY GIVE IN TO SOME OF THESE RIDERS IF IT MEANT I COULD BOOK THE DJ. DOESN'T MEAN I HAVE TO LIKE IT.

i want to see Markus Schulz' rider, but i'm sure it's pretty damn tame lol.
