It's pretty horrific. But, on a positive note, as feelgood and FunkyCrew said there's a fund set up for her. It's now actually about $500k and going up by about a thousand bucks every 5 minutes.
Hopefully the outpouring of support and kindness toward her will help temper what she went through on that bus.
Here's the direct link (for those who didn't see it in the yahoo story):

| I was an insanely troublesome kid (some might say I still am) but I would never go to that extent. My actions were more comedic and never overly offensive.. although I did make a few teachers cry.. and the Portuguese class teacher made sure that she'd never teach me another year again.. but still!! lol |

So does the fact that his background being Ukrainian makes all the difference for what he did, that it had to be pointed out?
Just asking is all. |

The only concern I have about campaigns like this is verification that it all actually goes to the person who it is intended for. I've donated to somewhat similar "empathy" projects before and been burned.

I think it's more symbolic of the fact that people are outraged and want to express support for the lady in one of the only ways they can being that they don't know her. Sends a sort of message that one act of hate can be balanced out (or outweighed) by multiple small acts of kindness. I think that's all that's behind it really and that's fine IMO. Most of the donations are small (5-20 dollars). |

i think it sends totally wrong message, even though it is a nice gesture.
pride cant be bought with money, nor can half a mil erase that comment about her son |

That is true, but the question is, beyond what is being done, or a half million individual letters of support from strangers, what can all of the people who support her do to express that they disapprove of this sort of behaviour? Obviously they disagree with bullying of this sort (at least), but most aren't from this town in NY, so what can they do? |
