and neither will the fake apologies of those monsters or their parents or even the school

random signs of kindness, monetary or not, small or big, by complete strangers can work wonders

Personally, i think the fact that she is receiving 400k is pretty silly. Its a happy ending to terrible incident but still...

Yes she went through some bullying on the bus, and yes junior high kids tend to be the worst, but still, being called 'fat and ugly' hardly warrants that sort of 'compensation'.

Bullying is something that will never go away, and I can assure you there are many bus monitors out there who are facing far worse, and wont be getting any sort of compensation. I can remember my junior high days and all the the bus monitors had to put up with.

I'd be very happy if she spent some of it back on the community, maybe a charity or bullying awareness group.

I heard that she was planning to start an after-school program at that same school she works for - no link to this unfortunately

i agree, what is the point for her receiving this money? just because she was bullied? there are way more people out there that require donations because they actually need it.

Donors weren't forced to give. Charity is up to the giver to determine whether a certain cause is what they want to support. The same argument could be said about many donors to breast cancer charities as they already receive the lion-share of charity donations to the detriment of research efforts related to other illnesses. Sure it's a lot of money, but if I'm giving money (and especially here where you can see how much money has been collected), it's up to me to decide whether I think she's received "enough".

As you many of you know, I'm an old . I'm also telling you that when ppl my age were that young, we wouldn't even have considered doing what many kids do today... incl. what these kids did on that bus.

We were afraid (to some extent) and respectful of our elders. If you got out of line, you got a smack for it. All this bull attitudes we now have towards our youth about not giving them a smack when they got out of line has backfired. Not just these kids, but many others treat adults like they would treat kids their own age. They talk back disrespectfully to strangers, their teachers and to their parents, because they know that all in all there's not any real repercussions they'll face due to their ty ways.

Very true.

Which is why, in this 'social media sensationalism' era we live in, its become even more important to have an objective view on everything. Anyone remember Krony 2012? That cash cow pillaged the pockets of many sheeple.

Also true.

Its well known that the Millennial generation is the most entitled generation that ever lived.

Im thinking this whole thing is ebb and flow at a macroscopic level... maybe 3-4 generations from now, people will see the repercussions from an overly entitled populace and react accordingly.

yeah srsly - if someone doesn't feel she deserves YOUR money by all means don't donate
telling me that I can spend my money in more "worthy" way is silly. I feel that she deserves my $X donation. That's my virtual way of reaching out to her
having said that, I'm not fishing for a pat on a back.

oh of course! it's important to differentiate - I'm always very skeptical when it comes to these types of online sensations

Yes.

That is true, but the question is, beyond what is being done, or a half million individual letters of support from strangers, what can all of the people who support her do to express that they disapprove of this sort of behaviour? Obviously they disagree with bullying of this sort (at least), but most aren't from this town in NY, so what can they do?

They can start by making sure that it doesn't happen in their town. Next time they see someone getting bullied, they put the bully in his or her place. Also, if they know someone that gets bullied or is susceptible to it, they can help toughen them up a bit. This would address the problem much better than throwing money at the victim.

As for the old lady in the video.. As horrible as those kids were to her, she shouldn't be receiving donations from strangers. That doesn't solve the source of the problem. I also disagree with people choosing to donate to this lady out of pity rather than people that need food on their plate, a roof over their house, protection from war and so on.

Those pricks talking in the video should be dealt with, singled out, and ostracized from their community. They're probably too young to be charged, but I'd personally be happy with them being shamed publicly. That will definitely help deter them from doing such things in the future. Their parents didn't do the best job with them, so their discipline should be left up to the rest of the community.
