There were some really odd scenes totally cut... One where Asuka basically flashes her crotch at Kaji and then jumps on him and he rejects her. I think its in a dream/meta sequence, the japanese notes on the page are total chicken scratch... :p |
lolwut :stongue:
I don't remember who this Kaji fellow is. As a matter of fact, all I remember about Evangelion is that Shinji was so angsty he could've been a 19th-century painter, Asuka had probably been given an oestrogen overdose in the first chapter so she was as balanced and thoughtful as a drunken Michael J. Fox on top of a speeding Lamborghini, and Rei was so numb I can't even come up with a bad analogy to describe her. Oh, and Misato suddenly became a pedo for no reason whatsoever.
Actually, I don't even know why I'm even using the word "reason" here. I watched it all in just one weekend, so by the time I got to the latter half of the series, nothing made any more sense, and I remember that when I finally got to the final chapter I was feeling shivers up and down my spine and crying in foetal position on the corner of the TV room trying to understand why the human condition was (or my then inhumane conditions were) so complex and painful.
To this day I don't know if I was happy when it ended because I had had an epiphany or because I was just glad it ended. If I had to bet, however, I'd definitely pick the latter option :p
Edit: You know what? It's been 10 years since I first watched it. I should watch it again just to see if I can understand it any better. I can't see what could be worse than being scarred for life, like the first time around :D |

Spoilers!
Kaji is the guy that is Misato's on again, off again boyfriend of many years (Misato being Shinji and Asuka's guardian). He was Asuka's guardian at the NERV branch in Germany and came with her to Japan. Asuka always had a crush on him, but he saw her as a child (and rightfully so, seeing that she was 14). Obviously this causes angst for her living with Misato. She makes numerous passes at him during the course of the series and he pretty much just ignores her. Asuka, being the most ed up of the bunch (her mother tries to get her to commit double suicide, and Asuka finds her mother hanging from the rafters the day she becomes selected as a pilot) she has some serious abandonment issues... But yea, she apparently was supposed to make some more uhhh out there advances on him but they were cut. |

Just to show how much Evangelion kicks ass and actually had somewhat mainstream success in Japan...
| quote: | | The Angel Ramiel is boring down through the upper layers of Tokyo-3 to reach Nerv headquarters in the geofront below. Possessing a strong beam attack and the strongest AT field ever observed, a direct assault by an Evangelion would meet with failure. A plan ("Operation Yashima") is devised in which Shinji in Unit 01 will use an advanced prototype positron rifle to shoot Ramiel from outside its target zone, which must use the entire electrical output of Japan in order to operate, while Rei in Unit 00 shields Unit 01. (A national promotional campaign to conserve and redirect electricity in the wake of the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami was named after "Operation Yashima".)[4][5][6] |

I remember Evangellion being one of the first anime i watch and thinking "THIS IS AWESOME!!!!" when i wathced it.
They i cambe back to it a couple of years later after having watched many, many more animes and thinking "Huh, didnt this use to be awesome and unique and everything, why am i bored as hell and unimpressed while watching it"
Also, the ending sucked
Not as much as the ending of Berserk though. |

Did you watch the ending movies for Evangelion? Because the end of the TV series sucked.
Also couldn't ever get into Berserk. |

Watched End of Evangellion, thought it was mostly e as well, coudnt be bothered with the rest. My reasoning being "if your ending is so ed up that you need to release several different movies and stories in writing to explain what the you were on about, i really dont care about it any more"
Count yourself lucky you neve got into berserk. THe manga is barely tolerable since it continoues the story, but i imagine on the day that the final episode aired in japan, there was a loud でしょうか? being heard from japan across the world. |
