Trance "2.0" (pg. 6)

I think trance is called trance because when you listen to it it puts you in a trance.

I don't see how there can be a "trance 2.0"

Its either IS trance or is NOT trance. If a track has elements of trance music but does not put you in a trance like state listening to it then it hardly can be called trance.

There is alot of music not labled trance that puts me in a trance like state. That is no problem. The problem is when guys call something trance that clearly is not.

W&W have nothing to do with trance its only stupid armin van buuren who think they do.

I definitely see what you mean, but there's more to the genre than Afrojack and that dinghy junkie. Some of that genre is actually pretty damn good, and it's a scene which doesn't take itself too seriously, so there's not much bull, apart from the superstars of the genre ofc.

Give me some examples of what you think is good electro.

Go to 2 mins 40 seconds keep your volume down

Oh and these guys as well. They are the ones to blame who came up with this stupid term.

Unfortunately Armin has also caught onto it as well unfortunately.

You do have a point there as well, Orkidea posted some tracks on his History of trance facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com/HistoryOfTrance ) and a lot of the tracks he's posted more recent ones have nothing to do with trance with the likes of Eric Prydz, Deadmau5 and Michael Woods and so on. He said he put on there because it has trancy elements. For me it doesn't I don't think they deserve to be there. He posted some recent tracks by Andy Moor and BT which have nothing to do with trance at all.

Orkidea decided to include it on there for some reason he felt it needed to be included.

It's funny how far removed 'trance' has gone from where it was a decade or so ago. It was fun as far as maybe 2003/4 at times but it was obvious that with the mass commercialisation of ASOT & other things that it was only headed for doom. A few artists still make nice things but it's hardly trance. Was on a roadtrip recently & on a cd this came on & even though I hadn't heard it for ages, I totally felt the same thing that I did when I first heard it, a state of mind that was akin to a trance, it's got all the elements you need in the genre imho, repetition to a good level, melody & progression as far as the structure of it goes. When we hit the 'uber breakdown into nothing' phase, things really began to hit the fan.

For anybody who sees umpteen classics cds too, this is a fantastic one for anybody new to the genre (who started listening 2006 & since) to see what it was/should be like

It doesn't have to mimic these exactly but the usage of things like 303/acid, good melody & the lack of stupid vocals generally is how things work.

one could argue that the uberbreakdown phase began here

Uber breakdowns in trance started with Acperience 1.

I think it would be more helpful to just abandon the word "trance" to the music that has colonised it, and come up with a new term to describe the good music being made today that would once have been labelled trance. Trance, at the end of the day, is just a word. I don't understand why people get so evangelical about it.

^uber breakdowns may have - but so much about that cafe del mar remix carries through to a lot of what still makes so many TAs sook to this very day. the pointless remix of a tune that didnt need it - all stylized like to reach the clubbers of the time. Heck i was a kid whod just started going to underage parties and this was the bomb yo :/

but yeah i do agree its just a term. the time for whinging that its all is really over - because its definately not all at the moment (its quite fantastic).

the names may have shifted a bit but its all still there for those that search :-)

Oliver Lieb / Marco V / Hybrid Remixes > Three n One Remix.

Trance 2.0 is a load of . It does not exist. It's only been coined and made popular by the formerly good artists like Armin, Above and Beyond, Gareth and all those artists with popular shows that need to keep their shows going and appeal to larger masses while still holding on to the name of trance because they don't want to just call it commercial club music or whatever. that 2.0 , trance started dying after 2004 and there was a few tracks in 05-06 that were still trance but anything from 2007 and on has been an embarrassment to the name of trance.
