Gaiser was good and impressive, although non-stop loops and fx always gets on my nerves after a while.
But Richie's set was horrible... I just can't stand it. Come to think of it, I really never enjoyed a Hawtin set. Continuous generic FXs and build-ups, but he never has any flow or story. All over the place...
I remember at Aria just standing there and wondering where the hell he was going with this. Same thing while watching this stream.
Plus the video promo suggested maybe a deeper, more forward thinking sound, something different. But he just played generic boring techno.
I would have loved to catch Hobo's live set... |

| It's strange that Richie lacks sometimes a good flow. Last time he played @ Stereo, a lot of people were quite disappointed. |

Some DJs are more into turntablism or now, technology. They play wth 4 decks, loops, effects, feels the need to show their skills. It's not so much about music.
It often results in cold, souless, loopy and sometimes annoying sets.
They don't let the music breathe, there's no "story". You get 3 hours of banging techno that goes nowhere. The point is to admire their skills, not to enjoy yourself.
That's what they do.They don't let people really free to be within themselves. I think it works for a show, less for night clubbing. |

| That's why I love soo much Progressive a-la-Hernan Cattaneo, it's all about smoothness and programming the set properly. When djs loop too much it makes it soo incredibly boring and at times predictable. |

| Actually a good storyteller can do it in any style, even do all of them in the same set. |

| My take on Hawtin, given I have very little experience with him, is that he's great at thinking of new ways to use technology, but he can't make them sound good. Again, based on very little info, just a gut feeling. |

| richie is top notch at what he does. story telling is not his thing. i've never been the biggest richie fan as i too find a lot of what he does boring. to me it's not really dance oriented but more along the lines of what martin said in that it's more of a show to watch and listen to, rather than to full on party and dance. |

and in August when a youtube vid of him playing the hardfloor remix of mory kante yeke yeke will surface like it always does in summer and you noobs will love him again.
Hawtin wasn't always boring. He did a night at Sona when Serato was new and he did some stuff with it that had that hole(we loved it because it was a hole) absolutely mad. He's just become a victim of own success and I think he knows he can get away with playing the sounds of dolphins farting for 2 hours so long as the botton twisting looks fierce. |
