You're really not very good at trolling.

It requires timing, wit and at least some intelligence. You have none of the important ingredients.

Shush now, and move on.

You sure told him.

It's not so much the level as the balance and placement.

This is a good example of a track that does this kind of sound a lot better, although you could apply the issue I feel I have with my mixes to any of the genres I create.

I love this tune.

i think the easiest place to start and probably the biggest offender is your bass. it is out of control. It lacks the mid highs that give it definition, it has too much low which is probably the easiest way to ruin a mix. Well i wouldn't know the easiest, i mean djryan would know that. But with this sort of layered trance, i think you have to EQ things more.

Then go and pick anything recent and behold the difference.

:p

Producing is ok from the start (bass is kind of muddy( to break which is strange - pads bad. single layer, melody crap - lead crap - chamge too quickly if catchy - oh know bass"drop" dont do it - melody boring -

^ this is what i heard.

Try this: this plucky thing octave down, :30 melody crap, try something new. Maybe something rim/tom stuff with fast attack/decay compressed, better than the pluck melody. Get rid off the pluck, completely. Melody is clichy and BAD, 1 pad is BAD. Break stabs OK/nice.

You mean to say...

MOAR DISTORSHUN?

I'm really not fussed about the layout, style, structure or included elements. It's a demo track for a soundset which was created on spec.

What bothered me was the mix, and I think the bespoken one has nailed the issue. It's not a matter of tools or plugins, but the overall balance and available room.

If I can't fix it with an inevitable monitoring upgrade then I shall just accept my limitations

i listened to both of your samples and the john o'callaghan remix and the most striking differences for me were the panning and the character of the hihats (your demos are practically mono in comparison, his track is a lot more extreme; your hats are smooth and layered, his are relatively sparse and angular).

for what it's worth.

Yes, its like you can hear your hi-hats there but they still sound "a little" mushy to me, there isnt enough space in the mix but then again for that style of music it always seems to sound like that (to me anyway)

I would guess that if your not happy with your mixes yet, like me, the best thing to do may be to sort out the monitoring. Is your room treated? Im just in the process of sorting out my room, and starting to hear stuff as it should be heard which is amazing.

Nah man, that'd make very much sense seeing as laptop speakers are just a tiny bit larger than ipod earbuds and far from flat.

I was live-jamming on laptop speakers once, and got this insane bass, but when I connected my headphones that magic resy sound was gone and even with eq'ing i couldnt find the sweetspot, but i got somewhat close around 2-5khz.

How about some pink noise instead? Mix it up a little and add some flair.
