Jon McNaughton would be this century's Norman Rockwell if Norman Rockwell had been an unthinking sack of potatoes. (And, maybe he was, for all I know.)

You know what I like the most about these paintings? The subtlety.

It's almost difficult to know what was going through the artist's mind. Almost.

The sad thing is that I can't help but smile when I look at them. They are ridiculous. Their unintentional self-parody is utterly hilarious. The facts that people accept the mythology they're trying to portray as legitimate history and that the paintings are viewed with a revered (pun intended - the artist is compared with Paul Revere who, himself, is a historical myth) symbolism haven't eluded me. The horror of an electorate that is illiterate enough to fall for such utterly shallow propaganda still, somehow takes a back-seat to the hilarity of 1) the fact that they do and 2) because the imagery is completely fictitious in the context of a rational, well-informed discussion that adults should actually be having in the United States.
