Worst mistakes during gigs

how badly can a professional DJ up during a live set?

tell me the worst story you've heard, and the worst experience of your own -- and how you coped with it? i'm sure it'll help us aspiring DJs a lot.
hey cheggy
I've picked up the live deck's needle instead of the finished track's needle. Haven't managed to do it live yet.

Had someone lean over and try to shake my hand, so i shook his hand and knocked the tone arm. Right in the middle of the track as well. Of course I blamed him and everyone looked at him as though it was his fault.

Since i haven;t done any live gigs, i can;t say i've done really bad....but i have screwed up numerous recordings by not fading down the other channel before i started cueing another track....right in the middle of a good choon you hear me starting & re-starting a new track to beatmatch....it was horrible. ;)

Not really a up on my part, but still...

There was this one who leaned over the DJ booth to look at the record, equipment, whatever, I don't know. He spilled most of his pint of beer all over the record I was cueing up. I was literally about to start mixing this track in, in about 10 seconds time. I had to whip the record off the TT, wipe it down with my shirt and then quickly put it back on and mix it in before the previous track ran out, all of the time shouting at this guy and calling him a wanker.

The Technics were fine, obviously. And the guy did go and buy me a pint from the bar to apologise, so thats fair enough. I still had to wash the record the next day though, to get rid of the dried beer.

have you guys listened to tiestos set from israel?

there are NUMEROUS ups, including a long silence, some messed up fading etc.

then, partway through, some guy (not tiesto) loudly says "What the ?"

it's hillarious, i reccomend you download the set.

the worst i've done was one night i was playing at a local nightclub (www.metrocalgary.com) and i wasn't thinking and i wore my hockey jersey

i was going great, when i went to use the eq and my sleeve accidentally got caught on the live record's tonearm

so of course the needle screeched across the record
i just grabbed the needle lifted it up and yelled "holy !", slammed the needle back into any old spot and continued on

the crowd just cheered and kept on dancing :)

I wasnt paying attention once and i took off the tonearm off the record that was playing instead of the other one that wasnt. I didnt feel so bad when i read an Oakie interview and he said that hes done it a ooupla times.

I read somewhere that when PVD was playing in Sydney, somebody threw up a record sleave for him to sign which knocked the stylus off. I can just imagine the expression of PVDs face - as they say on the master card add, priceless.

any mistakes made by the DJ himself? most glitches above are accidents which are out of the DJ's control.
