You would be amazed by how few people who listen to Armin's music actually know these things. Also, I don't get why you're bringing up Russolo, as if finding Armin's comments interesting means you must be ignorant to things like musique concrete. And in fairness to Armin, you have no real idea what music he listens to outside his day job, especially as he makes it very clear in the interview what he plays on stage is far from the limits of his interests.

I'm just saying that most DJs have a more eclectic taste than you give them credit for.

As for passion, I don't know, it's different for everyone. The world doesn't revolve around your exact standard.

true.

But I do find a certain irony regarding someone that has been doing the same thing for 10 years when he is already financially well off. That to me doesn't really send me the passion vibe. Passion for attention or performing, not really music.

Most artists, you see them do different things. Actors start doing broadway. Anything for something new and exciting. Armin just seem really content in that small world he has and that to me is not really what i consider passion well not for music.

I dont' really think i mentioned anything about djs tastes. I just think when you say you are passionate about music and then you put that up against the fact that he has been doing the same thing musically for the last 10 years, it is sort of a contradiction. I always associated passion with that sort of compulsion one has in one area where you have to know everything because you find it exciting. He seems pretty complacent. ANd i supposer i would hold someone how is doing music as a career to a higher level when they use the word passion,

I suppose if i could condense why it irks me ,

it would be like someone that drinks really bad win saying they have a passion for wine. I mean i don't really know their motivations but to me, it seems like they have a passion for drinking, not wine.

But that was really a small part of my post. I just found the interview boring. There are so many things one could say about djing that the layman would understand. Just psychological things that a dj has to consider. That is interesting. More than bpms.

Eh, isn't that also a sign for passion? If someone is dedicated enough to do the same thing for a long peroid off time, I'd consider them passionate.

And yeah regarding his shows, it's probably more about the act of performing than the music itself for him. But that doesn't mean that he still can't be passionat about music.

i am not psychic. I do think he is using the word in its germanic form.

Yeah, I get your point. If he loves ambient music so much, why hasn't he ever started an ambient side project? Or perhaps he has in a covert Richard Bachman fashion.

I'm wondering the same with most commercial DJs. I mean with someone that has been around for 15+ years there's no way they are very passionate about the music they play or produce at this point.

i had a discussion with other self and it seems i disagree with myself. Talking about what is passion and what isn't is like arguing about whether female orgasms exist. Too subjective. I will just say that it is disappointing when someone you think should be a well of information doesn't want to seem to really give you stuff that makes you more insightful yourself. And that is why i didn't really care for it. I like to learn.

I was just being a little too pedantic with the word music. Maybe he is passionate about trance and djing. And that is ok. It is too bad someone that is so passionate would not want to share more to the community. Like post information about his tracks, how they are made ... It seems in other industries, those that have made it and don't need money, are more liberal about what they say because they don't care and don't have to hide their secrets or what they think is secret.
