how will you be getting here driving from Philly? Have a friend trying to figure out how but with everything closed (all tunnels) and extensive restrictions on the bridges, can't really tell her much. |
Need more info. How many people in the car? Entering NYC around what time? Restrictions will be lifted after midnight [GWB has no restrictions but that would be a big loop to make]. The Holland is the only Hudson River crossing that remains closed.
If she has 2+ passengers OR getting into NY after midnight:
Lincoln Tun.->59th St. Br.
Otherwise:
NJ->Staten Island->Verrazano Br.->Gowanus/BQE(I-278)->McGuinness Blvd.->Rt. turn at Jackson Ave. which later becomes Northern Blvd. underneath the subway tracks->...keep driving underneath the subway tracks,...she should be able to figure it out from there.
Note: I wouldn't recommend the same route going back b/c of the huge outbound toll at the Verrazano.
***UPDATE***
1:30PM: I just heard the mayor say the HOV restrictions will be lifted at 5PM instead of midnight!! |

nachos good luck my dude, staten island is a disaster and everyone is using the tunnels. Your best bet is heading north and looping around. GWB is what everyone is using so if I were you, I'd steer clear of anything costal, come up from Philly through the most inland NJ roads then cut across 80East which goes directly into the GWB.
If you want to go costal meaning staten island, NJ turnpike, garden state, you're going to have a ton of problems. I think you're better off traveling north inland, and coming across into NY from the north and travel south, then coming directly in from the south.
You don't have to listen to me, I'm just saying I think that is your BEST ROUTE. And FILL UP WITH EXTRA GAS! Yes, buy an extra tank or two for the trunk, trust me is a hot commodity up here and NO ONE HAS IT! |

Expect extreme heavy delays. Friend posted a pic of the Qnsboro plaza platform last night, and it was overcrowded. IDK how the situation may be at 34st/Herald Sq. but I can say that my morning commute (from Queens) consisted of heavy lines just to use the stairways. Today went by a lot smoother than yday, but still, nonetheless, it was crazy.
To be on the safe side and assure that you won't get there late and miss part of his set, consider the commute from 34st/Herald Sq. and (you have two options here): N, get off at 39av or M, get off 36st to be between 60-90mins long. The N would drop you off closer but by like a block or two. And if you happen to get there faster than I estimate (which btw is an over-estimate), there are plenty of bars around the area to pregame or whatever. |
Thanks for the heads up. Good to know that there are bars around, in the event we get there early. I'll definitely be leaving Philly earlier then usual to hopefully make up for any delays we encounter along the way. |

UPDATE: Nov 02, 2012 10:49:56 AM
Friday, November 2, NEC service will be restored between Trenton Transit Center and New York Penn Station, operating on a special schedule. NEC service is not affected by power failure at the Rail Operations Center.
So I guess my next question is; how are the train lines out of Manhattan to where this party will be?
Edit - I take it the N Line is what will get us there from Manhattan.
Edit 2 - Looks like we are in business. http://www.mta.info/gss/2/8 |
im doing the N train also, should be quiet heading to queens at 11pm. |
