An evaluation of the track as I listen to it....
Oh look, stutter edits, ALL OVER THE ING PLACE.
This singers voice is either very "trace" generic, or like said, she does everyone, cause I swear I've heard her a lot before....
For such a long song, I'm not hearing a 4/4 kick drum, which is what would make this a mixable song....
Nevermind, its just took til past the 3 minutes mark to get there....and it didn't last for long.
This song not just overproduced, but over idea'd......there's like multiple concepts being smacked around on this track, and I'm only halfway through it.
I'm reading the little "story" to go along with the track.....and as usual, BT is way too envolved in minutia that really doesn't matter that much.
And it ends with a 4/4, meaning you can mix out it.....but into it? Holy no.
If there was an "Arty only" mix that was like 7-8 mins long and had a better, more club friendly structure to it, I'd buy that (maybe), but as usual with BTs tracks....nice concept, great use of tech, but ends being pretentious, or overproduced, or overthought, or a combination of the listed.

Unfortunately you maybe right. The signs indicate his next EDM album may not even match These Hopeful Machines, and we remember how well THAT went down here....

Producing vocal trance for Armada is a tragic misapplication of BT's talents. Sigh.

Lunar Phase 7
The guy still delivers.
Perhaps one of his best tunes in over 10 years, maybe his career.

Explain....because all I just heard was the same thing I heard all over his various albums...an atmospheric, dark, brooding kind of song with some acoustic guitar and the occasional (typically stutter-edited) sound effect.

There is no stutter edit in this.
BT's strength has always (imho) been in these types of tracks.
Last record he did this good that I played for ever was his Monster score.
The tune is coated in dark atmosphere, kinda like the second half of Solar Plexus.
Honestly I won't defend it. I've never like BT's club tunes, even in his prime. Although obviously tracks like Godspeed and Flaming June are still cool.
But ambient BT is something else. It's where you can put your headphones on and lie down at night sober or not and just enjoy hearing all the clever stuff he has done WHILST still enjoying a musically great record.
Next time you have something monotonous to do such as tidying your desk or walking to/from work or school or whatever and you have a spare quarter of an hour to listen without distraction just throw it on, pass judgement then.

Good explanation.
You're right, BT is very good at ambient. I just don't agree that its what he is best at.
