Why does dance music only have fifth chords (power chords) most of the time?

I see that in most dance music, there's only fifth chords. For example, they have C5 (C,G) instead of C (C, E, G). Why is it that they don't use a fuller sounding chord like C or C7, etc?

I think you may need to listen to more dance music.

i get were your coming from... fifth chords have more impact and dont take up as much space in mix. to say there are only fifth chords is wrong thou. The main problem i find with alot of trance producers is, they think to much theory and they write music by rules... o i must have this and i must use fifth chords... Do what sounds good.. get a chord progression and see if it works with melody bassline etc.. then add or take away notes if need be.

Would you mind telling me what changed for you (and when)? Just curious.

quickly glanced at a few tracks. Don't really hear any sort of prevalence of perfect 5ths.

There is a good reason you don't hear it in most tracks. Dance leads use saw waves, the 5th is more or less filled out by the overtone series.

I think from 2011 and forward it sounded different, more up to date i guess... I thought your tracks had such a unique old school feeling in them. The percussions were amazing, verry atmospheric & deep, your trademark kick always worked perfectly with the bassline. Music like this isn't made today, except from Timewave, MSZ, Kay-D and a few others maybe
MSZ
lol glad i caught ur post trancedanne. its kind of funny, not only am I making niche , but im making niche within a niche. There isnt a lot of people that care for this old school prog sound, but there are a handful of people on TA that do. Basically its dead and dying. No more releases for me after 2013, so add another nail to the coffin. I've had my fun making throwback (and non).

btw check out MSZ - Circulation

you want it? ill give it to you after release.

Maybe we'll one day see a resurgence, im not holding my breath lmfao. Now off I go slave away at work.

Thats another great tune, verry deep!
My favorite production must be your remix Javanny-Dreamcatcher, such a fantastic music journey from start to finish. The breakdown with the 303 sounds is ing insane, how often do you hear sounds like that today?
It really sucks that music like this doesn't get more recognition, i hope you continue on despite this. Otherwise it wont be much worth listening to anymore = /
MSZ
Its so much more enjoyable listening to music, than producing it; lol...(for me) Thankfully producers like timewave and kay-d dont seem to be slowing down, I know kay-d has a growing family, and he still finds some time to write amazing tracks. Im done with msz project, I only have a few releases that are waiting for release, and maybe one more final collaboration with "Cut Knob" music.

Joof and mistique are fostering a lot of artists, which is a great sign. People can complain a lot about the quality over time, but they're doing an amazing thing(a great service imo), its sometimes hard to see to the naive connoisseurs of music, if they even do purchase.(hopefully)

There isnt a lot of support for young producers these days, I thank guys involved from the bottom of my heart. The people running these sects deserve more growth; not only because of their envolvement behind the scenes, but their passion, the tracks they write are top level, and have been for a long time.
