"Celebrity: Meh. Random girl outside: Goddess Beauty" Why is this?

Hollywood has a narrow aesthetic. I think the same is true for supermodels. Commercial, generic faces that cycle forever with slight variations. Few are distinctive, and even then they're still no match for the random women who can be seen in anywhere but on screen.

The most beautiful women are ordinary people. You see them on the street, in the store, in school, or while riding the train to work. Maybe they're a colleague or a coworker. I saw one of the prettiest possible faces in existence yesterday. Everything about her was unbelievable, unreal. She was stunning, and I could not think of any celebrity who matched her gorgeous face and figure.

There are many beautiful celebrities who millions of guys would do anything to be with, who I don't find attractive (not to say I'd have a chance). But so many guys act as if all guys must like the same "perfect 10s." No matter what. I try to express that I think a lot of famous women are extremely beautiful, but not attractive to me. Of course, no one can understand something that complex and I get insulted. They can't understand how I wouldn't go for it. When presented with an example, I can fully recognize that society would rate her a perfect 10. However, she's a 9.9 to me and the real perfect 10s are walking around my neighborhood. But those women aren't Famous (which baffles me), so I can't Google them to show you an example.

To expand beyond Beauty, I remember a few people saying that the funniest people they ever met weren't stand up comedians. I keep thinking about how so much of the best talent in this world will forever be obscure. This Dawkins quote relates to what I'm saying somewhat. The extraordinary never make it to the world stage, they don't exist to us.

Are there any terms for this phenomenon? Why is this? Does it have something to do with seeing Beauty (or experiencing talent) in person instead of on screen?

I'm unaware of any good discussions or works on this topic.

I agree with the text, however what's with the pictures?

They were someone's illustration of the major similarities between old and new celebrities. But I already expressed this in my text, and I don't think it needs a visual representation to get the point across.

Hmm, well that's interesting then, I noticed you removed that, you may as well put in a link to it at least.

I agree with OP

i think while it's true that plenty of guys would love to hook up with famous perfect 10s, just about every guy can relate to what you're saying as well. plenty of guys hook up and fall in love with plain janes and put up with their BS every friggin day.

so no, you're not special in that regard. sorry.

in my entire life i can count about 4 women that i found so utterly and breathtakingly beautiful that i remember every detail of the encounter. just the memory makes me shudder. the last one was on the L train here in new york on a tuesday, at almost exactly 8 am on a Tuesday last year. i couldn't stop staring at her, she knew i was all about her but i didn't care. i knew a girl that hot wouldn't come around for a very, very long time...

anyway, time to go masturbate. see you later.

Can you read? He wasn't talking about settling for second best, he's saying he see's random people in the city that are hotter than the hottest celebrity.

Probably because you've been brainwashed to believe that what the media presents is the ideal image of beauty, and haven't critically examined why celebrities are beautiful in the first place. These people have money and fame - and with that access to personal stylists, fitness trainers, hair stylists, make up artists, etc. etc. Not that they aren't actually beautiful people, just that on top of it they have a whole lot more help with the smoke and mirrors aspect of "beauty".

So when you see an actual beautiful person, someone on "your level", they appear that much more beautiful - because they don't have the same help with it that celebrities do. They are more "ordinary" - more real, so it makes them more attractive. Imo.

most people can't afford the sort of food , surgery and lifestyle that would make someone "hot". Look at before and after pictures of most and the amount of work they get done to look hollywood hot is ridiculous.

And i agree to some extent, the 10s you think are 10s have some sort of context that make them hot to you. Remove the context and put them in a a film and i;m pretty sure you wuld find them atrocious.

The only food that will make you hot are capsicums, and ing habaneros are a dime a piece.

Go to an Eastern European country and I guarantee you'll see a girl like that all the time.
