Markus Schulz Open To Close Avalon Nye!!!! (pg. 13)

he played for 12 hrs, 10-10.

the set was what you would expect from NYE(early parts) definitely different than his solo set for la '12. his last few times at avalon, he didn't really stay in the rabbit hole that much and played familiar stuff, but last night, have never heard him with such an underground sound, i hardly recognized any of the songs. i loved this part and love it when he gets on a techno tip.

if you left at 3 am you would have been disappointed, but if you stayed the majority of set, you would have no issues with the set. when he plays long sets, you need to be there the whole time to experience it the way it's intended to be experienced, from beginning to end.

That was an eventful experience.

I don't like Avalon staff though ugh.

Btw very nice to meet a couple of you for the first time :)

There were a couple of tracks that I could have lived without last night, but I had a good time. I've been attending and following Markus from he's early days in Miami. In terms of playing some cheese, I think every DJ in the top ranks of DJ mag does that for that long of a set. Having said that, Markus played some banging tunes that had me surprised and happy about. Overall a great time! Won't say it was the best I've seen of him but still def. worth it to been able to be there. TBH hearing that remix of synaesthesia was one of the highlights.

My only rant is paying 10 bucks for a watered down gin and tonic, worst I've had anywhere.

If I have to wait 6 hours just to hear a decent song, you know it's going bad. How can you call yourself the unicorn slayer and drop that cheese for 4 hours? I've seen Markus probably 40 times, byfar the worst was last night

Im sorry but you have no idea what your talking about.

If thats cheese and mainstream then what the are you listening to. He played one mainstream track up until 3. You come on here and give a bogus review
For people who didnt go. It was an open to close set, you were in bed while he was just getting going.

I love Markus and have known him for 10 years, but, ISOS4, your defense is rather pathetic. At least puts some constructive thought in your response.

Hate people who respond with pathetic bashing. Ya only osund like a douche in the end. Not saying you are, but you haver to do better than this...

we all had a pretty good time. got in just before 10. My favorite DJ played all friggin night , playing I like, so no complaints from me. I heard few vocals I think, yay! and as we were trying to leave around 6:30, Markus roped me in, and my watch said 7:50 when I was in a cab. Markus was definitely getting sicker after 5 or 6. Had we not left, I'm sure we would have stayed til 9:30/10 and closed it down. Not a problem except I had to check out the hotel and get a few hrs sleep before my flight back!

So, consideingr we weren't even planning on going and decided completely last minute to change out plans...*thumbs up*

i know i've already said this a few times in this thread already, and i've seen markus almost 30 times by now, the beginning of the set (1130 - 230ish 3) may have been cheesy to some, when i say cheese, im not talking about vocals, but playing trousy tracks, and also normal peak-time tunes that markus plays.

in the 30x times ive seen him, he has never played such an underground style, techno, twisted, whatever you want to call it. and it wasn't just one or two songs, majority of his songs after 3 am were wicked.

im sure the world tour episode will be from 12-2, which will leave some dissapointed, i really hope we get to hear the after hours part of his set one day, you will really appreciate him as a dj MUCH more and won't call his set 'cheese'.

i left around 730 ish 8 because it was getting way too cold, should have brought a jacket with me.

Got in around 10:20 and stayed until the end. To me, Markus played how I guessed it would be - most of his newer Scream productions and some commercial sounding stuff (like Otto Knows - Million Voices) until 4. Pretty much sounded like his World Tour sets from GDJB to me. Even though I am not really into a lot of the newer productions (2003 - 2005 Markus productions are my favorite) and banging anthem sounding stuff, I was REALLY amazed how much energy Markus had all the way until the end. He played Without You Near Afterhours Mix as we predicted. Seemed like he was really having a blast the whole night and that's what kept me going. That and a couple of Red Bulls. I didn't think I could last but when I heard him play that remix of the Doors - The End, I knew the end was near :) I thought Digweed Avalon's NYE show was crazy when he played from midnight to 9:45ish(?) but this was definitely the longest I've ever stayed at any EDM event.

Here's some of the videos I took that long night, change to 1080p for best picture ->

Happy New Year!

Bobina - Pune

My favorite track of the night - Danny Tengalia - Be Yourself (Markus Schulz Big Room Reconstruction)
