Partier Vs. Raver

I just finished reading through the thread "What is a Gino" and I have to be honest, I'm so sick of that topic. The issue has been re-hashed on here WAY TOO MANY TIMES!!! But, it did spring a thought in my head.........everyone on TA loves trance (at least I hope so). Trance is a genre of electronic music associated with the "rave" scene but now, it's played on the radio and in clubs. It seems like more and more people (Ginos and many more) are getting into it. Not only are they just listening to the music, they're going to events and partying hard (which usually involves doing drugs) and even getting into other types of music such as breaks, dnb, techno, etc.
So, my question is, does that make someone a raver or a partier??? I think I'd call myself a raver cuz for one, I dress like one, I go to raves and club events, and all the stigmas of ravers apply to me. BUT, then again, I'd call myself a partier because I don't just go to parties to get high and I don't wear candy kid clothes, plus I like hitting 19+ events at clubs more than going to venues that are TBA (to be announced). Malice and I have talked about this. What do you guys think???
Is there a difference between a partier and a raver AND how would you classify yourself??? |

Rave is dead, at least it died 5 years ago or so. House music killed it. So I guess I am just a cluber who loves and enjoys Trance and progressive music.
btw that is E*masters words
wait till he reads this thread and it all be over |

After enduring the crush of Labour of Love, seeing the G and coke scene of the Zone, and visiting ****************.com, I stand firmly with the ravers.
It's not about wearing candy, either. I'm just not out to scope chicks. I want to listen to the music. |

I'd have to agree to some extent.
I just started into this scene, but labeling is something I'm very familiar with (I've had the "you're a Punk - you're not a Punk" arguement more times than I care to remember). I call myself, when pressed, a clubber, and here are my reasons:
- raver has a negative connotation and I'm tired of getting odd looks from friends for using it. I assume I get these odd looks because A) I used to rag on ravers and the elelctronic music scene (sorry 'bout that by the way) and B) because they have no idea what a raver is.
- partier is a universal. If you get wasted/toasted/high/etc... more than once a week with more than 2 people, you're a partier. Hence this applies to like 80% of the population (or so I hope)
- clubber just feels right. I haven't been to a 'rave' yet, but have been to large events at clubs (Guv being the biggest), though I am told these count as raves to some extent. Since these events have all been at clubs it just fits.
I look at it like I looked at punk before the great disenchantment occurred. I'm here for the music and my friends. If I pick up, bully for me. If not, well that's why I'm Irish and at home in a pub....
Cheers,
Fats |

Soo, the mods at ***************.com have got to you, eh?
Well, as I see it, you trade sketched out kids on the floor and minithugs for barstars, the G crew and juiced up shirtless ones.
Six of one, half-dozen of the other. |

i dont know what the hell i would be
i would prolly be a lounger/clubber :)
im all about the trance musik and electronic musik, but not so much about the scene you know
if i go to a big rave or whatever its not like im gonna dance or anything, cause i just dont do that, call me
sure i love the atmosphere of it but id rather just sit in a booth at a little lounge or whatever sippin back vodka based drinks, smokin a j, and chillin to trance, mainly because of the fact that mainstream bar people are crowding into the electronic scene just for for drugs or whatever and they dont even respect the musik
barstar skanks go to pick up barstar guys, and vice versa, why dont they just stay at their barstar bar (i realize my insane use of bar and star:P)and stop diluting the musik and clubs electronic partiers frequent with absolute
theyll go to an electronic club and be like man thatd be cool if they played blow my whistle bitch
its like wtf go away |

First of all^^^^^^^^ YOU'RE DAAAAAAMN RIGHT!!!!!!!!
Ok kids, Here is a little history lesson ONCE AGAIN from your E-Master who EXPREIENCED RAVE AT ITS FINEST HOUR!!
ok. Rave started in 1994 which was an offspring of TECHNO (My bro introduced it to me when I was 13). Back then that was 2 unlimited for the time being. Once techno satarted evolving into much faster and hardcore beats. This style of music was then called RAVE! Now. This was the time I personally experienced a RAVE. in 1995 I Went to a raveclub in Amsterdam, don;t recall waht iw was called same with the one in Rotterdam as I was under the heavy influence of the new drug (back then) called Extacy. Extacy BACK THEN was 60% speed 40% cocaine and Cost about 80-400 DM a pill!!!!! (about 60-340 dollars). I was 15 at the time so I did not know any better. Anyhow, At these "RAVES" tey played nothing but "RAVE" music and since we partied there we were called "RAVERS".
Now I had to come back to Canada. 1996 came around, and I tried my HARDEST to get rave tunes over here. Rave never made it here back then. The only rave song that i EvER heard her en the radio was "Are you ready to fly - dune" and that was on Hits 103.5 now Z103.5. Then shrotly after that, in 1996, I found the shokcing truth that Rave died. It was killed by house music which was the "newest" trend. the beautiful 200+ BPM music was dead ( Ia mnot talking about happy hardcore or anything else, I am talking aout REAL RAVE). U guys wana know what real rave sounds like drop me a PM and I will mix one up for you. Rave, as of the beginning of 1996 was legally pronounced DEAD! I was shattered and as was a good friend of mine MECHA. we held on to it though but it would not come back and we finally realized it was over.
So this brings up a few questions to me.
1. If you are a "raver" then why are u not listening to rave?
2. RAVE IS DEAD! GET OVER IT! RAVE IS DEAD!
3. You are not a RAVER, I once was a RAVER but now a PArtier.
4. ANYONE who calls themselves a raver needs to think about what they are cause Rave is dead and it is not coming back. YOu are not listening to Rave, what they play at "so called raves" is NOT rave so it can't be called a rave NOR are u a raver. PEriod. nuff said.
Why can't ppl understand that whent he term "rave" came here it was totally misunderstood.
I don't want to diss anyone here. I really don't. But I do need to clarify some things. I did not dress in pants that are liek 8 times my size witha pacifier in my mouth colouring my hair mulitcolour rainbows like a sheik condom's mixer pack. No, we al dressed normal, anyting having to do with nuclear and biohazardous chemical waste things was cool. That was Rave this is not Leave it alone.
I need to take a Tylenol I have a headache from all this lol
