I honestly don't see any reason whatsoever to mourn or honor this girl, any more than there is to mourn or honor any person who dies, ever. The facebook page is absurd, and completely unwarranted. Is it unfortunate that bullying may have had some part in a girl killing herself? Yes. Does that mean she is deserving of a quasi-memorial through Facebook? No.
I'm sorry, but I just find it disgusting that this girl is getting so much attention, when much of the negative attention she received was in large part provoked by her own actions. If you want to mourn someone, mourn the kids who kill themselves due to bullying because of their sexual orientation, skin color, socioeconomic status, or something else out of their control. Not the girl who was bullied for being an internet skank. |

What's sad isn't so much the fact that she committed suicide but the cavalier rationalizations for the way she was treated. It's wasted hostility, on a target completely incapable of putting up a fight, and it certainly hasn't made the world a better place. Bemoaning the fact that people find the suicide sad doesn't legitimize the treatment she received, leading to it. |

It sounds like she made one small mistake and it snowballed into something that she just couldn't escape from. She switched schools on more than one occasion, moved to another city and was still harassed.
It seems like she didn't have anybody to turn to and she was convinced that this is something that will follow her for the rest of her life. She may have been a skank but I don't think this is really something she deserved. |

I see your point, but I still think it's a worthwhile discussion that we as a society need to address, or are bound to address should we assume any modicum of civilized discourse. She made some huge, stupid mistakes, because she was a stupid child. She was probably mentally ill, too, some of her questionable actions and reactions being beyond the "typical" ilk of what we suppose are normal teenage schemas. She drank bleach, she switched schools, she bared herself in front of strangers seeking attention-- why? What drives anyone to do such a thing? I don't believe her tormentors are vindicated merely because of our want to treat individuals with respect for their own actions, and the fact still stands that, as a child, the law views her as incapable of consenting to a great deal of liberties adults face, and for a well-founded reason; this case is evidence of such.
'Many people die or take their own lives every day' is an absolutely dead-end argument, and I'm not claiming that even the most rational discussion will alleviate the realms of depression and associated illnesses that afflict the wealth of human behaviour, but that harassment be taken seriously when it crops up, that mental illness and suicidal tendencies be treated with the same seriousness- and perhaps more damaging- that victims not be blamed for their compounded, irrational routes of coping within the social spheres they either choose or are thrust into, would be a small step toward understanding those who need and deserve the help that is available to them. |

Yeah, but facebook is hardly important in the scheme of things. I struggle to think of what comes below facebook in the “hierarchy” of “shrines” to the lives/deaths of people. Few things take even less effort than setting up an FB page, except perhaps for “liking” that page. I can’t get indignant over something so ing trivial. |

Maybe they did kill themselves and you just never found out about it? Bullying is horrible and something that is difficult to control in this day and age... I feel for kids that are cyber bullied - you can't escape that .
At least in the old days it was only during school that was the problem |
This.
The reason why newspapers don't always report when someone takes their own life is because this kind of news often leads to copycat suicides - it's hard to keep silent when someone is driven to suicide by cyber bullies because the number of people who know what happened is way greater than usual. |
