I'm right with you on crooked teeth thing, lol. Does NHS do free "kids cosmetic dentistry" (aka braces) over there? Over here when I was growing up, early 90s, we didn't get , and my mum couldn't afford braces for me when I was 13.

I wish my teeth were straight, but they aren't. I'm a bit self conscious about them, here and there. You won't see many pics of me with a huge grin on my face. I suppose I could fix them, but it would probably be remarkably expensive, and I have better things to spend money on.

Also, I think you become less vain, when you become an old cunt like me :toothless

After 12-ish years of not visiting the dentist, I had to go to get my front tooth filled (chipped when I was 8, look like Jim Carrey). I made an appointment for a check up at the same time and found out I had 7 cavities! If only I'd been to the dentist in my late teens to have my molars filled with sealant, it would've never happened. :/

So yeah, I made 2 trips - had 3 cavities filled one day, and 4 filled the next. They were just tiny specks of cavities though, so nothing mega to worry about except the cost. Thank goodness for my university's insurance!

I've never had any other issues. Have all my wisdom teeth, never needed braces, no tooth decay, etc. I floss and brush regularly and I just found out yesterday (at the dentist, when having my teeth cleaned, heheh) that my dental insurance covers unlimited scaling. Which means, if I wanted to, I could go in every week and have them scrape the tartar + plaque off my teeth, lol.

Here's a before and after of my chipped tooth, lolol.

I actually had all my adult teeth before I turned 10. I was all front teeth for years until I grew into them, lol.

I've never had any cavities. But I do have problems with plaque buildup. My dentist tells me it's a genetic thing, so I blame my father every time I come back from an appointment.

My brother on the other hand has had a nightmare dealing with his mouth. When he was younger he had braces, and that fixed his teeth, but his jaws were misaligned. He had a massive underbite, so intense that his upper and lower jaws didn't even touch.

So he went through serious surgery that implemented some sort of palate expander in the roof of his mouth. He had to crank it twice a day so that his jaws would align. Then they had to break his jaw and he was forced to have his mouth wired shut for 6 weeks so his underbite was corrected. Poor guy had to drink smoothies the whole time. Then he wore braces for another year to correct the spacing created between his teeth. He looked hilarious when his mouth was wired shut, his face was all puffy:

Haha, we take care of jaw surgery patients in the step down unit. When I was getting my orientation/education so I could work in there, the jaw surgeons came in and showed us a power point presentation including pictures of what each type of jaw surgery looked like.

ING DISGUSTING.

Lololololol.

My best friend when I was younger had an underbite and basically the same thing as zip's brother. They also busted his cheeks up and re-did them, and his nose.

He essentially left senior year in high school one day looking like the guy I'd known since 3rd grade and came back 2 months later looking like someone totally different. Was pretty weird.

Apparently also the school ed up his reason for absence and they counted him absent for 2 months with out reason and said he'd have to repeat 12th grade, so he dropped out instead. :p

One of the major risks after this kind of surgery is depression, for this very reason. Many patients have a hard time coping with their new face, because it can be so drastically different from what they have always known.

He was the opposite, he was depressed with his face before hand, like couldn't look in the mirror depressed. I think it really helped him out.

He also changed his name too...

At least he didn't go avana though (well who knows i havent talked to him in a couple years).

My teeth these days are good, but I've had a lot of work done in my pie hole, to the point I'm really nervous about the amount of radiation my head has been exposed to (I reckon approx 300 head xrays just for dental work).

When I was 4, I was drinking Apple Juice right out of the little pack. I was in a shopping center with my Mum, and suddenly this dentist ran up and grabbed the juice away from my mouth. There was some little known reaction between the foil lining (type now banned) and apple juice, which turned my two front teeth completely black.

Luckily, still milk teeth but still had to live with them for a good year/18 months.

Since then, had surgery to remove one tooth that didn't drop down, 11 stitches in the roof of my mouth, braces for 3 years, 2 root canals, and probably 4 fillings (the metal amalgam type), all NHS.

Later, as an adult (private fancy Beverly Hills dentist) I got all the dark filling replaced with white ones, then another wisdom removed. (that was ing horrible. They were yanking so hard back and forth on the tooth, the surgeon had to stop, and formally notify me that he might break my jaw trying to get it out).

The single most painful thing I have ever been through was laser whitening. It would come in waves while it was being done (think someone slowly pulling out the most sensitive part of the root in your tooth) but the killer was afterwards.

I was driving home and the pain would suddenly strike so hard in a given tooth that I blacked out for a couple of seconds (kind of like going blind from the pain) to a ton a cars honking me.

Do not do that whatever you ing do.

Now my teeth are pretty good, bright and pretty damn straight.

I heard they were pioneering this new technique of injecting the gums so they would go loose and then they would just turn/straighten the teeth in to the desired position. I would so do that.

Oh and...
