This Wednesday, Denise Benson will be doing a 1 hour lecture at the Gladstone Public Library at 7pm talking about the history of clubbing in Toronto from the 1970s to the 2000s.
Attendance is free but you have to call the library (number provided in link below) to register.
I saw this on BlogTO and thought it might be of interest to people here.
I'm going to attend because Denise is arguably the most renowned dance music journalist in Toronto's clubbing history, and she's been around forever.

LOL at Denise Benson being most renowned dance music journalist in Toronto's clubbing history, that is laughable, as is her journalistic credibility.
I would not take Denise Benson opinion on Toronto Clubbing very serious for several reasons including she is from Orono, not Toronto. She moved to Toronto in 88, so she cant really speak on the scene here, & how it manifested. She is only qualified to talk on 1 scene, the scene she is apart of which is the house scene, she however cannot talk about clubbing because she never was part of clubbing scenes, she was part of the house club scene. |

Thanks for posting this Highroller.
I'd love to go to this as her series is full of hard work & digging up people and facts from bygone times. The effort and depth of investigation she's put resonates loudly.
Alas, I'm hosting a whisky tasting that night. Ah, c'est la vie.
Look forward to hearing the reports from anyone who goes. |

What investigative effort has Denise Benson put into her articles? Every article Denise Benson did in her series has factual issues in each piece, & she skews the articles to favour the scene she is in.
Most the clubs she reported on were House clubs, that cater to a certain clientele, but the house scene does not represent the club a scene, it is 2 different things.
Denise Benson should rename the event to "A History Of Toronto House Clubbing 1970-2012" than it would be more factual, & her opinion would actually have some merit. |

The electronic scene maybe? Electronic is connected more to other genres than it is to House. In all honesty if you have read up on Denise Benson you know she moved to Toronto, & doesn't know about any scene but the House one, so she cannot talk about Toronto clubbing, she should call it Toronto House clubbing. |

It's amazing that Dick T 2.0 hasn't figured out that I have him on ignore.
Then again, judging by his pathetic attempts at misguided discourse, I guess it isn't that surprising after all. |

This thread is not about your imaginary internet friends, & your internet code language, it is about the event in the topic title. If you disagree with what I said please feel free to rebut it.
The only pathetic attempt at misguided discourse in this thread is you mentioning that you are hosting a "whiskey tasting that night",looks like you are the pathetic one who started drinking a bit early  . |
