it seems that avalon has been having a hard time booking legit and new djs for saturdays the past couple months now, while their control fridays are booming with the new scene.
as you can see here http://avalon.wantickets.com/
looks like all the djs want to play at an insomniac or other hollywood gig when theyre in la. |

that's the politics of the LA scene.
My good buddy has told me they've been hurt'n lately. Supposedly, they are going to be closing down for a couple weeks at the beginning of the new year and doing some renovations. I know they've been talking about installing the new John Lyons Avalon Sound System 2 so I'm guessing this is the reason for the temporary closure. |

| well they have def been in need of a new sound system for a while now |

| Shoot, I'd take their old system any day and install it at my club. Our system is wack compared to theirs. |

| I think Avalon's current sound system is the best one in LA at the moment IMO. Last time I went to EXLA the Function 1 system there was not tuned right at all. It was very loud in a bad way and kind of distorted. I love Avalon as a venue despite the crowd it brings. I can only see it going up with improvements. |

i agree with this. Avalon has an awesome sound system that doesn't kill your ears (sort of). |

| everytime ive been to avalon. my ears ring for a day or 2 after. the only place to me that happens. if you cant hear the higs distort there, your hearing has already gone. |

Avalon has a couple of spots that the mid highs are too loud probably due to resonances but I haven't heard any distortion whatsoever. Unlike Circus where I feel the sound is always distorted. As for Exchange, I wouldn't say the system is not tuned but it is too loud.
As for talent I definitely wouldn't complain, since I went there for CL&J00F, Ferry, Oakey & Bobina but I can see that they lost some market with the Exchange and other venues bringing these DJs. |

| Well avalon still gets great bookings, if you are looking only for mainstream djs that draw the crowds then exchange is the place, but avalon atmosphere is much better than Exchange, and as far as crowd goes exchange isn't much better, then again we all go for the music there, and sound system and ex la is not tuned well at all. The club that is way too loud is playhouse, circus is like a warehouse party its a shame since they get such great trance djs but sound just dissapoints. |

I agree with most except atmosphere between Avalon and Exchange; I think Exchange just kills Avalon, Friday crowd that is, the energy and how much everyone seems to be enjoying the night at the Exchange vs. the zombies and weird crowd at Avalon. |

I always have had ringing in my ears the day after going to Avalon, even with ER20s. Maybe it is not as bad as other clubs, but it certainly isn't safe for the ears. |
