I was actually really surprised. I wouldn't have thought I'd hear this kind of mix from you. :D Anyway, sounds good. |
Yeah, I was listening to a couple of retro '90s mixes (notably Leftfield's brilliant Essential Mix from 1994) that are just totally different to the thing I do when I make a mix: just funk, rhythm, acid, samples, quick mixing. I've been trying to avoid doing the same "spacey atmospherics" thing over and over and try to bring a different vibe - that's the title refers to. Of course, it does get a bit dreamy and melodic towards the end, but only as a comedown. |

| So... are any of you sons of bitches going to actually listen to this? |

| Just a longshot guess at the title... is it a reference to Gwen Guthrie? |

| Correct! Points to you. |

I LISTENED.
Firstly, this was most excellent to partake in whilst blowing big weed. That whole intro section kinda seguing into some more rave-esque material really went down nicely. AS PERUSUAL, YOU TALENTED LITTLE INDIVIDUAL, the mixing was precise and well-crafted. The Chemical Brothers section sticks out quite a bit, as with all the The Light tracks I wasn't familiar with. Well, really all of it I wasn't familiar with, so it was overall a worthy meal.
Cheers, ye dog. |

| Also, do I spy you listening to a new mix on last.fm? |

Cheers for listening, man. Surprised you aren't familiar with those remixes by The Light, and most of the ending in general, what with the heavy SASHA influence.
And yes, you crafty bastard. I'm doing a mix for a mixtape swap community thing, which I will probably post here. Bit wary of over-saturating TA with my mixes though, especially as nobody seems to give a about this one. |

Which is a shame, this ones pretty refreshing.
I also did recognize a lot of stuff at the end of the mix, just don't know most of these tracks by name. Most of what I listen to from this period are sets I don't have tracklists for. |

The mixing was very very good (especially from the oldskool hiphop at the beginning to the mid 90's breakbeat in the middle) but I'm more of a fan of atmospheric, spacey type breaks than the more raw breaks this mix had. Definitely picked up toward the end for me, favorite track being the remix of Comin Back (Vegas was one of the first EDM albums I ever bought).
I have no problem with you "saturating" the forum with mixes though! You always change up the genres and do a lot of great 'crate digging' so it doesn't get old. |

| Yeah, this kind of breakbeat doesn't seem too popular on TA, which is perhaps why this mix hasn't had much response. Still, I'll give it a little while before posting the next one, which should be more to people's tastes. |

God damn it, I completely didn't get around to this mix.
Putting it on right now, I could do with some breaks this evening. |
