sad day when Porter Robinson has top billing over Cosmic Gate...
StrobeLifeNYC
This is happening more and more often to a lot of former trance DJs nowadays. It's happening because they're trying to play a funky electroish Porter Robinson-style (or Aoki or Dada Life, etc.) set, and they've lost all their old fans. Meanwhile, they haven't done much to gain too many new ones.

In other words, it's happening right now in realtime. A lot of the former trance guys who lost their roots are getting PLAYED by the fads they were trying to emulate...

im well aware of that... seeing Tritonal recently, i was shocked at the garbage they were playing... too many trance acts going this route recently... :(

here's a cut from CG's last set at Glow:

they still spin trance relax guys.

I think the reasoning behind the booking is this... 2 different crowds, both come out really strong for their respective artists. So by combining them we a) draw from 2 diff markets and b) we introduce trance fans to porter and electro fans to CG.

no comment on billing info.
im intrigued as a fan

The only 'trance' they spun when I saw them in Philly last month was stuff off the WYM album, mostly for what Emma sang live. Outside of that it wasn't much trance.

This pairing doesn't surprise me based upon how they played. Really don't know if I want to give them another chance in NYC on the 21st.

Edit - Listened to the first half hour or so of the set. Definitely not trance based upon the tracks they were playing, IMHO anyway. Sounds like what PR would play.

Skipped around a bit, heard they played Loops and Tings, On My Way to Heaven... have some originality, sheesh. :(

This thread is making me sad. Cosmic Gate was one of my favorite DJ/producer duos. I loved them so very much. Even when Sign of the Times came out I still supported them. They got a bit fluffier with their sound from like 2007 to 2010, but they were still very unique and their sets were still brilliant. I remember when they played Pacha in 2010 and stayed on the decks till 5:30 in the morning... they showcased an incredibly unique style of soft progressive trance. Barra and Nic's remix of Man on the Run, etc...

Now they play trouse. Like ing Farty and Jochen Miller. It's expected of certain DJs, but from guys that were busting out hard trance bangers ten years ago, it's truly sad.

Still, if I had to see a "trouse" DJ, it would absolutely be CG. They still drop some good tracks, and they're definitely solid DJs mixing wise. Oh well. Rant over.

thats what makes it all so funny ha ha ha ha
it was only a matter of time before this was going to happen

they started out as trance dj's but when the big guys started to jump ship for this new style they started to make tracks for them and their kinda crowds. they are all puppets spending hours upon hours in the studio making tracks and hoping tiesto, avicii, shm etc etc will support them. so yes you were once a trance dj but now you have all these new bigger house guys playing your stuff of course you wont be a top biller no more since you're still considered a "trance dj"

give it a few years they will all be back to trance and act as if the whole trouse thing never happened.

i dunno man.. i don't know if trance can recover from this. the only thing that kept trance alive was its loyal fans.the chain has been disconnected. i had hopes in uplifting trance but that is quickly turning into trouse with fast bpm (138+). producers like incident noise will take over and overshadow everyone. you know.. that white noise sound that take over through out the song. still trance feely but very raw saw sine bassline and shhhhhhh shhhhh shhhhh all over

here is a sample.. and i like this one. its a bit slower then Incident noise type but it shows what i mean. this will be the future of trance and i hope i am wrong

thats not too bad actually
id rather listen to stuff like that than a trouse filled producer set
