Guv certainly is catering to a different market these days, but it's still a world class club.

It would be nice if The Guv had a 4 or 5 events a year that were actually worth going to. I think what they fail to realize is that they can book cutting edge acts and still pack the place.
For example, I think Four Tet vs. Caribou or Four Tet vs. Jamie XX could pack the main room if it was promoted correctly.
I miss the Guv. It truly is an awesome club.
Flama Blanca
Never thought i would say this but Guv isn't even in my top 3 clubs in the City of Toronto...

You and me both. I made sure not to miss The Gift last month because I have no idea when I'll be back there the way they've been booking lately.

I miss the old Guvernment. You guys remember James Zabiela and Sasha on the same bill? And those countless Deep Dish parties, some of em having Luke Fair and Desyn Masiallo open up for em?
Yeah Guv has gone 'mainstream' (I put that in quotations, cuz some of the big DJs they book not even the mainstream know about) and now smaller clubs in the cities book the guys we wanna see. I guess it's just the scene now as those DJs we like wouldn't pack the main room enough as the cheese they like booking. So in the past, early to mid 2000s thoee DJs we liked were the major players in the scene but not anymore. Maybe Guv is just the true reflection of how it is these days. At least they still book John Digweed...that's really the only good act they still bring consistently each year, amongst some others here and there.
The Gallery seems to bring out some good DJs. I've been blown away by some of the internationals (Paco Osana) and locals playing there. I think the Gallery is still open? I'm not sure. Anyway, yeah despite their bookings, the club itself is pretty good just wish their DJ choices were better.
EDIT: That promo vid showed DJ Rehab playing...man that guy is the epitome of trash. I listened to a set of his online and had to shut it off after 30 mins. I'm surprised I even lasted that long. All the songs he plays sound the same with dubsteppy synths being infused in house songs. There's no change or progression of anything. I can't believe this is the new sound...

BOOM!
Maybe... and I'm just throwing this out there... we're getting older?
And they can't cater to a demographic who comes out once a month if that, usually for free because they all know someone by now, or in for cheaper, and when they do it's at 1am and they buy some import beer and a few rounds of bombs and then "whatever else"...
I'm all for the music being cutting edge and ahead of the curve and all that elitest bull. But if I owned a giant massive superclub, I'd play polkastep if that's what got kids spending $200 a pop on over priced ty vodka and fake redbull and coming in at 11pm every Saturday night...
