Should the US cut back on defense spending?

The U.S. spends $695.7 billion in defense while the other countries in the world like No. 2 China ($120 billion), Japan ($60 billion), Great Britain ($59 billion), France ($53 billion) and Russia ($52.7 billion) spend way, way less.

Do we really need to keep giving more money to the US war machine instead of improving our nation with that money? Thoughts?

Education for 100, Alex.

Those of you who say spend that money on education have no idea how education spending in the states works. And for the record, the US spends close to a trillion dollars funding education for students. If they are not learning its cause the teachers suck and students won't study.

Also we are cutting spending only by ten billion a year which isn't a lot.

My basketball coach in the 2nd grade told me that the best defense was a good offense.

Just food for thought, what if the government spent that money on funding science that didn't have an application of killing people? Renewable energy, blue sky type grants, etc.

Then all the companies that profit from non-renewable energy, people killing other people etc won't get as much money as they currently do.

Drastically cut defense spending, take the time to reform our education system rather than simply throwing money at it.
