One of my favorite tech-house/tribal jams in a while. The two can go well together, it doesn't have to be either / or.

Amen. I can't comprehend why any tribal dj would give up the drums. They make any track better and make tracks impossible not to dance to!

That's all I'm saying. You don't have to call it "tribal", just keep the percussion and funky basslines.

That I agree with, but a lot of the tech house sets are programmed like tribal with some percussion as the breakdown as opposed to the main set.

Listen, I LOVED Lawler from Lights Out 2003-2005, but times change.

Even Chus and Ceballos, aside from Stereo, which is a mish mash of sound, they even got away from tribal.

There is a lot of tribal influenced tech house and I think it's a good synergy.

On a side note, I used to love Peter Rauhofer in 2007, haven't really listened to him in 5 years, and just took a listen to his soundcloud today and it was ghastly. His sound has not aged well.

Now we're getting somewhere.

I'll never stop listening to the tribal drums, it always has and always will be by favourite EDM genre - I've just come to realize/accept that the DJs that once used to play tribal house (Lawler, C&C, Vibe, Calderone, 00-02 Kleinenberg, D-Formation, Peace Division, etc.) unfortunately play little to none of it these days in their live sets and most of the tribal they play is just percussive tech. That chuggy, progressive, drum filled, bongos, shakers and deep bass tribal that we grew to love from the early to mid 2000s is a sound of the past. That's why I have to get my tribal fix from other means than listening to the big guys.

There are still some underground DJs that produce it but they are hard to come by...you have to do a lot of searching and pick up labels/names along the line!

Recent (released in the last 12 months) tracks that I feel still have that "sound" (little to no-tech influence):

I'm totally cool with times changing, and of course DJ's need to adapt according to demand in order to ensure work. I think if Lawler or C&C were still playing the same stuff I'd probably be bored with it by now. I just would like to see the percussion used more as I feel it really fleshes out the sound. So much tech-house sounds great nowadays, I just feel that it's lacking that rounded, flowing element. It's funny you mention Rauhoffer, I know he did a lot of tribal, but I never got into him. I didn't get exposed to much of his better work I guess. Not saying he didn't have any though. I also never caught the DJ Vibe bug like so many of my friends did. I always got put off by that big synthy sound I heard in a lot of his sets.

Its evolved...like all music does.

I don't think we will ever get what we like to call Tribal House back. There is some decent stuff out there today but you really have to search for it. Most of it is tech infused anyways.

sad but true.

I'm glad Victor played well at Union. He was very disappointing on the last boat cruise I saw him on. The music was fine...but it wasn't the Victor I knew. The same happened with Lawler a few years ago and Mauro Picotto before that...

I'll go see him again..hopefully the next time he comes but knowing what to expect will probably mean I'll end up having a blast.

What did C&C play like at Uniun a couple of months ago?

Stilez
Speaking of C&C, best interview I've seen with them in a very long time.
