"the grass is always greener..."
isn't this essentially what ibiza has been for a long time now? a destination designed as a sinkhole for your loot that just happens to offer up some great dance music (but also some really commercial cheesey mc. cheese) ?
|
you said ibiza is a sinkhole for your loot, what is ASOT @ $150+ for a few hours? or ezoo for $300+ months in advance on randalls island? i think you misused the word sinkhole here because it's not about the 'grass is greener', it's about how you value your money, basically that "is it worth it" which is often the easy-go-to if you have no idea of the other side. However, if you've preconceived ibiza as a "sinkhole", then I guess you are right.

massive events like this msg deal are more oriented toward the festival crowd...there are ty festival-type events all over europe, too. the OP referenced ADE, which is cool and all - but acts like Richie Hawtin (a main attraction there?) seem to be pushing a rather commercial agenda as of late, not entirely unlike that of SHM et al.. Those 'in-the-know' are so quick to jump behind someone like him that they look past how heavily he's been advocating his 'brand'.
This is modern 'edm' marketing, that's all. There's money to be made and most of your favorite djs aren't above selling their soul to get a piece of the pie.
|
how dare you compare SHM to Richie Hawtin. I don't want to get into brand warfare here but what the has SHM done? Did SHM bring SAKE FROM JAPAN to Ibiza? Did SHM hold a domestic tour to educate COLLEGE students on the technical aspects of DJing? I'm not talking about the actual actions, I'm talking about the BRAND that Richie Hawtin represents and has represented since plastikman. I wouldn't consider Richie as "modern", he's progressed both his talent, his brand, and his following to a completely different echelon than SHM.

anyway, we've got DEMF.
and as for resale value of tickets - bla bla bla supply and demand bla bla economics bla bla. ... will smith - parents just don't understand (jaded old farts remix) |
sorry to say it and i've never experienced it don't think i ever will to be honest, but demf as a week/festival in my eyes has eclipsed it's climax. I'm positive the local will move towards dubstep and trouse as the younger generation catches on. It might not get the Guetta/Dayglow/SHM genre but it'll linger as a dubstep/deep house/trouse mainstream with techno-roots. It will be the jungle parties of the trance era. |

I understand that it's a pretty big leap, but you must realize how stupid some of the stuff you said sounds (probably a joke...not sure if srs tho) - and, while I do agree with your last statement, I just want to reemphasize that what perturbs me about the news coming from the Hawtin camp over the past year or so is how brand-oriented and profit-driven it all is. Tiesto tours colleges too. It's free money for the djs. |

You're an idiot if you fail to recognize that the matter at hand is the commercialization of dance music, generally speaking. I was drunk as all hell so I wrote SHM when I meant ASOT, but the point remains. And what does ASOT have to do with Trance anymore anyway? That is chheesssyyyyyyy and why most discerning listeners have either moved away from trance entirely or just J00F J00F J00F.

only because your AK is demilled and mines isn't =P
and LADAZE i wasn't really joking regarding the sake part. I think it's GENIUS to pair the late dinner early night out with some tasteful music and a different expression from Richie as an aspiring sake sommelier. His artist selection for that 8-10pm sake hour (pre-party) is probably one of the strongest brand pairings (kehakuma, imported sake from japan, minimal artist playing an early evening/late dinner set) i've heard of stemming from a musical influence on a remote balearic island |
