Ok let's leave the kiddie -talk aside for a second and talk reality. I saw this posted today in the NYPOST.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read through it. As the title reads:

"Shameful Art Attack-Art or Assault"
The Rockefeller Center here in NYC has commemorated the terror attacks on the WTC by putting up a sculpture of a falling victim from one of the Twin Towers.

What the freak is America coming to?
Jesus. Excuse me, let me pick up my jaw here.
I work 4 blocks from the Rockefellar Center and I HAVE to see this with my own eyeballs to believe it.

umm...

i dunno what to think. i do think the newspaper was being far from objective, and last time i checked, reporters are supposed to be a *little* objective.

as for the sculpture. dunno still. its not the greatest idea - and it prolly doesnt need to be in the middle of the freaking Rockefeller Center, but its just art. Is seeing that worse than seeing the news repeatedly showing people leap to their death - forr ratings? Or all the people that exploited the 911 event for profit last week?

and in the history of art there have been bad ideas, gross objectionable ideas, and brilliant ones. I certainly dont think that this falls into the 'brilliant idea' category - but its getting noticed, and how many statues and pieces of art actually get that respect? not many!

now im just waiting for this beauty to be plastered all over CNN/Fox/CBS/NBC/et al... THAT will be horrifying. peace|

Wouldnt a firefighter statue be better???

Well, IMO it captures the sadness and tragedy of the day. It does go overboard but so does a lot of art. It is probably too much for some and really shouldn't be in a museum but isn't this almost censorship? I'm sure the artist of this isn't trying to be sick at all but expressing their feelings of the day.

That's the last thing I want to remember about the WTC, is the people who jumped out of the building. You have got to be kidding me. That statue won't last a week. That's ed.

Nah, what they really ought to do is make a nude statue of Mohammed Atta with the genetalia reduced to about the size of a dime, then let people piss on it for $1 and donate the proceeds to charity.

But I guess a firefighter statue would be ok - just kind of uncreative.

The statue of a falling victim, though, is a retarted idea. They should throw whoever thought it up off a building.

Good art is supposed to be agressive and searing, thought-provoking and sometimes infuriating. Did it make you think about those people and spare a few moments out of your day to feel what they were going through? Thats what the sculpter wanted to achieve in this. Yeah he could've done something else but this forces you to put your mind to something you'd rather not think about and as such it serves it's purpose.

IMO some of you are being too shallow in thinking about this. You just see it and think "OMG, thats so horrible, no one wants to see that kind of thing" instead of thinking of the message behind it. All art has a message and meaning behind it...you just have to look at it and open up your mind.
