So it has been a long time since I have written a review about a party I've been to. That's because nothing has really warranted a review in a long while. Last night.....

Guy started off from the start of his set... he just reached out his hand and welcomed you to the dance floor. He got the crowd grooving, but didn't take long to pick it up to the next notch. His precision in the booth, his technical skills, his transitions.... simply amazing. I see now why he opens for Digweed so often.

Around the six twenty mark (i know only because i looked at my phone so I would remember to note this in my review) , the track he was playing made me feel like he was in the jungle, smashing bamboo with a machete. (It kind of had that Layo & Bushwacka "What do you say now" machine gun sound to it, except a shorter and quicker, more powerful sound.)... It just erupted over the speakers and molded with the music. That with the melodies behind it and the non stop beat... the crowd was EATING out of the palm out his outstretched hand.

The last 15-20 minutes of his set were mind blowing. The crescendo of melodies that layered and layered over one an other - the screams from the crowd - the hands in the air - the feet sliding left to right - the smiles. He brought that room to the peak of a musical high and trickled it down to a small whisper.

Applaud.

That was a journey I will never forget.

Thank you Guy.

. Will try and write a review tomorrow.

This was me tonight:

Jimbeau
It was either going to this or Adam Beyer at Footwork, and since I've never seen Adam live, I really wanted to go to his performance because I've been following him a lot longer. How did the Guy J performance turn out?

He was certainly good. Maybe I'm just a bit too jaded. I've never been to that venue before, so I didn't know what to expect. I had been forewarned that it was a tight squeeze. The wall separating the bar and dancefloor seemed unnecessary and cut the venue in two when there could have been a little more overflow. I found Toika a bit too packed and difficult to manoeuvre around. There were spots to dance if you sought them out, but in certain areas the crowd were a bit pushy - which is a personal pet peeve of mine.

I think next time he comes, he'll warrant a bigger venue. It was just a bit too rammed for my tastes and that takes away from the music for me sometimes.

Overall, his set was tough for the 2 hours I was there. I was kind of surprised at the 'lack' of melodies. They were there in places, but based upon previous other sets I've heard of his on his Soundcloud, this was very tough and chunky and a bit of a directional change in his sound. The crowd were definitely loving it and I'm told that his final tracks were 'glorious'.

I was there from around 12:30 - 2:30 AM and the track he was playing as we were walking out was awesome. My gf, who's not a househead in the least, even commented on it and said it was good! It was definitely in the vein of the stuff I was expecting out of him, so if he carried on from there it must have been great.
Forever Forward
Guy J was so entrancing. His music really takes me away. I would love to relive that experience.
