I swear I just bought Komplete 8, and I bought it when it came out.

Ultimate, or standard?

I bought the standard version upgrade when it was dirt cheap last year. Ultimate doesn't really appeal to me - too much sample content that I'll never use. I'm mostly only interested in Battery 4, but I'll wait and see what else is included in the standard 9 upgrade before I decide if it's worth $149 to me.

Wut about massive 2?

I'm a little underwhelmed with Battery 4 and Monark tbh.

Monark seems to be just another Reaktor Ensemble (although some of them are cool) and Battery 4 is a GUI overhaul with some new FX thrown in.

I know, I'm probably exaggerating the not changes.

Probably a good time to upgrade Komplete for me though. I'm still on V6.

You'll get a LOT of new toys for $149 upgrading from K6. I'm looking at the NI site and it looks like all I'll get for the K8>K9 upgrade is Battery 4 (want), Monark (meh), and The Giant (meh). I already bought the vintage compressors last year and they are f'ing excellent. I was hoping that maybe Alicia's Keys would be included in standard, but nope. Oh well, I'll probably skip this upgrade and maybe get the Battery 3>4 upgrade after I check it out.

BTW, what the f### is NI thinking making a mono soft synth in 2013? [facepalm]
tehlord
Yeah it's a €149 upgrade here, I might have to go for that.

I suspect that Monark was using too much CPU and because of the Reaktor architecture they couldn't fiddle with it enough to optimise it properly so went 'all retro'

It's a lot more than that, actually. New browser/tagging system ala Maschine (one of my favorite features of Maschine). New sample library. 128 cells, with color-coding (that will be a handy feature, actually). Per-cell effects, output busses, internal sidechaining, etc. New sample-stretching algorithms with 7 modes. And, a new humanize feature that I'm not sure what it does, since B4 doesn't have a sequencer:

While your beat is running, use ‘humanize’ to turn the most rigid of grooves into ultra laid-back looseness.

...maybe it just humanizes velocity? :conf:
tehlord
Battery 3 has the humanise function as well. It just randomises velocity, pitch, timing etc.

I still think they could have gone a bit further and included a midi drop and drag step sequencer at least. Shame.

I was hoping for better Maschine-Battery integration, but knowing NI, they may improve that in some B4 updates.

Yeah, now that you mention it, I do recall that Battery had the humanize feature, although I never really used it because I primarily use Battery with Sonar's step sequencer, which has a ton of humanization built into it.

Got my K9 upgrade and installed it last night.

Battery 4 is pretty cool. The new library is definitely more electronica-based. Not a lot of added features, but the interface looks much better, cleaner, and more modern, the new effects are great, and I love the new Maschine-style browser/librarian. It's cool that the cells automatically change color to match the drum category (e.g., kick, snare, HH, etc.).

The Giant is actually really nice sounding with a wide range of tones. I could see this being very useful in trance. There is a "cinematic" version of it that is designed for just wild effects that sound nothing like a real piano.

I was wrong above about the effects plugins - it turns out that K9 does not include the vintage compressors that I already have, but the new Solid State series (SSL clones) and they're very nice, too. I think it may be official - I now have more compressors than tracks to use them on. :happy2:

Haven't played with Monark much yet, but the few minutes that I did spend with it left positive impressions. Back to exploring.
