I agree here, that is one route.

you also have hte progressive house that stemmed from the 80s obscure and extended mixes that turned into trance.

kind of like the first track rebel 9 posted

second one is pure eurodance, but i would consider that vocal trance as well.

Your question lacks intelligence... Kinda like you i'm guessing...

Some more pre-94 vocal trance:

Trance-MB
From 93, but I got it in 1994 :)
Cosmic Baby - Hear Yourself Dreaming

1995:

Release on vinyl in 1995, but already on a compilation in 1994, though Jessy's vocals are a bit minimal here. Awesome classic trancer though:

Nikolai - Ready to flow also had some vocals although minimal as also Mega Lo' Mania - The Finest.

The first release was in 1993, though probably just few heard it then:

Almost forgot:

And if one line is enough this is my vocal trance winner for 1994:

Maybe some like this one too: Joe T. Vannelli Feat. Csilla - Voice In Harmony (Giņ-Riccione Vibe Mix)

And since Culture Beat and all those others could bring some pretty trancy sounds:

I still love it when those vocals start at 2:38, awesome, this would be my winner if the track needs more vocals then just one line (I think, as it was a few years back for me):

Also check the God's Groove album, the one and only :(
communica
i'm not sure what qualifies

dance trance?

jam and spoon are sort of trance.. this was epic...imo maybe not the most popular.. I think that might be pop...

It is pretty clear that robert miles wasn't really known too well until children but I have dreamland on vinyl too both 94 tracks.

dance/rave/freestyle is where the early 90's were at until the progressive/house wave took over,, then we have halcyon trance.

I got to say a little off the mark but Red Herring is one of the best trance tracks from the period.

positiva is known as a good lable from the 90's but not so much trance... more so progressive..

also platipus http://www.discogs.com/label/Platipus --- this is trance..

CHILL...
ENIGMA HUGE!!!

"Return to Innocence"

one of my personal favorites is
"Always" Erasure more of a vocal bit but there is solid ambient backing to it... (almost more of an industrial track though)

I'm still waiting for a solid trance remix of this track

I'd like to think this was trance
"No Good (Start the Dance)" The Prodigy

lunatec was an innovative lable for the time..

Cygnus X Superstring ???? very well known.

after: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrn6Vwy-RCg
:)

I'd still take the 92 version of stella over

One of the others next to Culture Beat in 1994 like mentioned before of course was Cappella. As a synth lover I guess it's obvious why I liked Cappella that much, here another example:

Still love that build up to that nice melody @1:38.

Jam & Spoon also made some awesome trance remixes around 1994 containing vocals and yes they were very popular:

From @4:26 is just beautiful :)

That is mental!!

The original State of Grace - Not Over Yet release sounds like it should've been made 5 years later. Oakenfold was ahead of his time.

This ^^

It's got such an old skool vibe yet it feels current. Great track.
