Making a sound stand out more without raising it's volume (pg. 4)

The track in the OP sounds like and old Tyas track, played by DJ Eros on his limited to death podcasts. Even if the 2bus is not clipping, that track is already so full of compression, limiting, maximizing and sausage fattening that it becomes a dynamics free sausage regardless wether peaking at 0, -6, pr -12

I would recommend RESET your project, set the kick peaking around -18 and start mixing around that, only cutting and volume allowed, you need to get some air back in this mix

Well, if you feel like the sound needs to be extremely loud to have presence I think you're actually fighting against the mix. The sound is competing with something else.

Also, something I had to learn pretty fast that if you put reverb on everything nothing stands out. Use it to accent certain sounds.

Often times in more commercial dance tracks there aren't very many elements playing simultaneously so each one can be more powerful.

If you absolutely need two sounds that occupy the same place in the frequency spectrum you could probably duck the other sound.

haha what? reverb to make it stand out? ooookay then. I'll just put my shoes on my head and my hat on my ass, because I'm clearly in wtf-land.

As for OP. I haven't listened to your clip, but I'd go with an exciter if u need something to pop. The trick is to have three different kinds, then you can make three sounds pop at once.

As for OP

The kick sounds god awful and is ruining the mix in and of itself. It might be the worst kick I have ever heard.

Secondly, your bass and lead synthesis is ruining the mix. All of your sounds are "loose" and result in an empty, sloppy sounding track.

Solution: Get better. lol

Thats kind of harsh Jay, don't you think?

Erghh, I can NEVER get the kick right. It always sounds fine to me but according to everyone it's way off... I'll look into it next I guess.

Here's the latest version. The breakdown/buildup after the bassline is kind of irrelevant, it will just about certainly be significantly changed. The sounds have been cleaned up a little and the lead pluck taken out.

Kick has a very annoying swell after the attack - me no likey. And, for god's sake, please put in a chord change - 4 minutes of Fmin makes me want to hang myself.

Yeah I'll take a look at the kick. And haha, I tried doing some chord changes throughout the bassline but it didn't work. This track isn't uplifting or anything, it's just meant to be all-out dance track.

It's sort of meant to be like Porter & Weston's track, The Tesla Effect.
