I'm sure if Circus brought in promoters that catered to the 21-year old party crowd they'd have a lot more people going.

I thought that's what was being suggested with dubstep.

Everyone knows Insomniac club nights are going to be busy regardless of who is playing.

Insomniac worked hard to bring Exchange where it is now. Quite a few nights in the beginning were not as busy and even now they often have to fill the dancefloor with VIP tables or give out tons of guest list tickets.

I am wondering why we are talking about Circus when it really depends on the promoters. Noone else has done as well at Circus as Spundae/Godskitchen.

no i'm referring to the crowd that goes out just to party and get drunk and try and get laid. that's Drai's or Belasco most nights. they don't care what they listen to lol.

actually Giant did the best at Circus not Spundae ;)

But there are also targeted events that do well, like the Mayan or the Arena.

Giant at Circus must have been before my time ;)

Giant started in 99 or 2000... i forget. they launched the superclub scene in LA. Spundae was involved a bit with booking the djs (as they played SF the same weekend usually) and then took over when Giant left.

just saying it doesn't matter how big or nice the club is just by opening your doors won't guarantee a crowd... as evidenced right now.

Giant and Spundae were partnered up in the beginning. It all kind of depends on which side you hear the story from. The Spundae side usually being the correct side ;) (touche' mr cool1g)

IMO... it's all about the promoters. But smart promoters will choose a venue that will be successful. The best promoter in town (right now) is Insomniac and I betcha if someone offered them a job at Circus, they'd politely decline (and LOL about after).

edit**

Like I said, these Circus threads are GREAT!

I remember the forums used to get CRAZY back in the day. Avalon vs Circus. Giant vs Spundae. No MOD for the west coast forum. It was AWESOME!!!

I think the biggest obstacle of throwing parties at Circus is its size. That's why most promoters would shy away from working with it. Maybe Circus could think of a way of throwing small cracking parties, as a way of attracting more people to come. That was exactly what happened last Friday at Ruby Skye: a small cracking party of about 50 people turned into 3/4 full main floor.

If you are the owner of a huge venue, I guess somehow you would have to prepare for a small crowd and keep the party going.

Great post!

they need to remodel the place. that's a business decision they need to make. no legitimate promoter would step foot in that place considering its current reputation.

Vanguard had become a hole and has not been bought out by the SBE guys (famous for their couture clubs n ) and guess who teamed up with them....... Insomniac!

Gene is nearing 50 years in the business (I think he's year 40 or something). He says he plans on retiring at 50 (last I spoke with him a couple of years ago), that's if he doesn't croak before. The problem with this is why would he want to spend a ton of money on remodeling, when he's planning on retiring?

I doubt Circus will ever get remodeled. What for? You're probably right about spending a ton of money especially when he's already past a retiring age. He was going to retire some years ago before the housing market crashed, remember? Also, the other nights, mainly Fridays, get packed and there's usually some type of special event happening on other days/nights. Saturday seems to be the only night that lacks a crowd and I think it's mainly because too many people follow where others are going. The other thing is probably not enough promoting.
Go this Saturday, 4/13, and you'll see it get pretty packed in the main room. May 18th will also be packed. Why? Cause the Disco people work hard and promote a lot and well... the crowd loves to party, have a good time and not be complaining about the sound system or concerned about who is playing or which of their friends is going.

Every week the line was crazy! Every week had a couple of "top" DJs. Circus was the place to be.

It would probably have gone this way on the LMD thread that was deleted.

Edit: I mean talking about Circus.
