I think genre definitions like "uplifting" are kind of silly.
I mean, if you try to define every track in your style as "uplifting", it gets old fast, and for me it reeks of trying too hard to make a track do something that it's not necessarily meant to do.
If someone labels a tune as "THIS WILL MAKE YOU FEEL HAPPY", then chances are it just won't (for me), because I've already subconsciously decided not to like it based on someone trying to presume what kind of effect the music will have on me as an indiviual. :D.
Real uplifting trance tracks are just *insert drumroll*........TRANCE.
Lol, so whether or not it's "dead" doesn't really matter.
Either a track is uplifting, or it's not, there isn't really a lot of scope surely? How do you define uplifting, and whose idea was it to try and marginalize certain types of trance into this genre?
Dunno, just don't care for the idea, but that's me hahaha.

If by good trance you mean JOOF then you really need to listen to more music. His monotonous psy prog is just as institutionalised and as conservative as uplifting. It's also oppressively pristine — JOOF runs his ing nights at MOS here, for crying out loud. There's certainly more entrancing music out there but it isn't trance. Melodic techno, hard/industrial techno revival, unsettling bass music, noise, etc...
Trance was only good when it wasn't codified and planned — German techno producers exhibiting a certain kind of praxis, I guess.

If you bothered to check his sets he doesn't play psy always. He sometimes plays prog as well. I have nothing against techno especially german but the minimal stuff is so boring.
