Recommend me a headphone amp

i just received my Dt 880 pro 250's in the mail today, and i gotta say it blows all other headphones that i have listened to in the $300 price range out of the window by far, and apparently i haven't even breaking em in yet, i am kind of glad i didn't buy more expensive headphones, because it sounds really similar to the hd 650's i tested out awhile ago.

Anyway, i have em hooked up to my komplete audio 6's, and even though the audio level goes to a reasonable level, i want to push it a bit higher.

i know literally nothing about headphone amps/dacs

what would you guys recommend at the 100-200 range ? i don't want it to color the sound in any way, just keep it as neutral as possible, and compliment the phones more then anything.

edit// what do you guys think of the fiio products? they seem to be the most common, when you do a search on google for amps.

I've never owned a Filo headphone amp, but they seem to consistently get good reviews on gearslutz, head-fi.org, etc. Try doing a search for Filo and DT880 together and you'll probably find some user reviews from people with that combo. One thing to keep in consideration, though, whether the review is good or bad, it may be written from the audiophile/avid music listener-types, rather than people using them for mixing.

that head-fi forum is a cluster , but thanks i will do a search.

its almost as hard finding a store that sells the products i am interested in, unless you live in china or the uk. :wtf:

I think this one can be a strong candidate:

have you tried using another mix for your headphones. Pretty sure you can use 1/2 or 3/4. I mean there is something wrong somewhere if you need it to be that loud,

well i dont know

isn't a dedicated headphone amp suppose to make the sound better or something? because the headphone jack on most soundcard's just wont do ? thats the consensus that i got after reading around a bit. :conf:

Don't listen to L4c, these headphones need power and needs to be driven by a proper amp.
Looney4Clooney
didn't really know the specs considering i don't understand why anyone would buy them unless you are using them for non reference listening, let alone invest in an amp but ya, you are going to have a hard time finding an amp with a 250 ohm impedance. Lots of people use lower values and your line out should be 100 ohm so maybe just try that first ? seems like a waste of money to invest in those headphones. I use the 990s for certain instruments if i don't want to make noise. . use the line level and they sound fine. They aren't exactly reference caliber headphones.

I bought them to rephirence mix, and I think they will be fine for that had a 3d stage accurately portrays the lows better then my speakers , and there's tons of amps out there that are capable , I'm just looking for the right one.
Looney4Clooney
like i said , finding a 250 ohm impedance out is going to be hard or expensive. And they are horrible reference headphones that colour the sound. And you should of gone with the 990s if you wanted bass. Anyways. good luck .

i wanted something neutral.
Looney4Clooney
anyways, no point telling you now. But ya, i suppose if you think they are neutral, it is probably not a bad thing to know they aren't. That is actually why i have the 990s. They are comfortable and sound nice. They colour the sound.

also , i made a brain fart and was mixing up stuff that isn't really relevant. Altho impedance matching is important for say long cable runs were you want the highest power transfer , it really doesn't matter for headphones especially since it is driven by voltage . as long as the amp is in the range 1/8 th the nominal impedance of the phones, you are fine. I remember an article that actually gave you a formula given the ohm and SPL / mW spec and i suppose knowing the min max load impedance it can drive which i honestly think you will not find so i would not worry about that .

just do a google. I'm experimenting with home wiring and the above post doesn't apply to you r question. The thrill of doing something that could kill me and start a massive fire that could rave the lives of many seems appealing.

I would just checkout something by art. No point spending more than 150$
