For Sale: A Video of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Smoking Crack Cocaine

Rob Ford, Toronto's conservative mayor, is a wild lunatic given to making bizarre racist pronouncements and randomly slapping refrigerator magnets on cars. One reason for this is that he smokes crack cocaine. I know this because I watched him do it, on a videotape. He was ing hiiiiigh. It's for sale if you've got six figures.

It began like this: We've made fun of Ford before for his bizarre pronouncements and nude pictures. Last week, we got a tip from someone claiming to have a videotape of Ford smoking crack. Would we like to buy it?

Moral smoked crack with Rob Ford!
WittyHandle
DC mayor Marion Barry did it first. Is there nothing original you Canadians can do? Barry got reelected too. Top that, Ford.

To quote Whitney Houston, "Crack is cheap. I make too much money to ever smoke crack."

I'm conflicted over this, because the stigma on drugs is equally as ridiculous as smoking crack in the first place. Obviously, crack is an historically damaging substance, endemic of racial marginalization in North America, and anyone partaking of it -much less a public official- is not innocent of moral turpitude, by the very definition thereof. But simultaneously, I am troubled over the whooping and hollering such an act garners; Is de-stigmatizing drug use and getting people help not more important than condemning it outright because the jeering is a high of its own?

This is far from the first time a conservative figurehead has emerged with a substance abuse problem- take Rush Limbaugh and his pill addiction. Their stifling, idiotic rhetoric is all too quick to issue judgment of everyone but themselves; the irony is a veritable surfeit of hypocrisy. But in likewise hypocrisy, self-ascribed liberals will use the opportunity in gleeful schadenfreude to point out that those wretched conservatives are no less execrable than the, uh, downtrodden addicts under the, uh, opulent aegis of leftist... compassion.

Is Rob Ford a good mayor? haha, no. Is he probably a cunt idiot whose inability to contain his addictive habits probably seeps into his likewise ability to do the job that he was elected into? Oh yeah. Is there a fair bit of cognitive dissonance in the media's alignment and stirring of public opinion when it comes to the vulnerability of substance abuse given application of moral equanimity? Huff.

The show just never ends, but smoking crack is so very far from the root of anyone's problem but Rob Ford's.

Hes from my Area. So much coke you can run the slalom here. Trust me, around here Everyone knows the ford family and that family s with lots of drugs.

His sister shot her fiancee in the head like 8 yrs ago while they were on a huge bender. This is no secret to West Enders. But to the rest of the city this is huge.

There is a reason why the West End has million dollar homes right beside government housing on every block.

And that's the real corruption that ought to be discussed. Instead, this story is being strafed over by Gawker like flies to , because ohmygod, crack!

And it's the same base of people that would heartily support a job fair at a Methadone clinic, yet when a *politician* get high! Oh, my pearls!

I'm probably not right to be railing about this, but it still puts a weird feeling in my gut, witnessing the weighing in of both sides whenever this sort of scandal comes to light.

I hear you, but the guys behavior has been eccentric as hell. I think now that people know he does crack it all makes sense and this is why its so big.

In my opinion if youre doing hard drugs in an important role it should be a holy moment. I have friends in high roles who mess with substances and Im prepared to watch them fall hard. I wouldnt feel sorry for them. When the lives of other people are in your hands and your out getting ripped every night.... I dont know thats not the person I want running my city, opening me up to do surgery, to be defending me in a court of law, etc...

If you want that higher up position I think you should be the entire part!

You're not wrong at all; Rob Ford has some serious ing problems that are foremost grounds for being ousted from his position. It's those disorders that compel a person in his position to do hard drugs in the first place, though, not the onus of everyone else who does drugs. It's the "BEGONE, CRACKY!" mentality that irks me, when espoused from people who would in any other instance have some vestige of sympathy.

But I suppose he is so very far from deserving sympathy, given his means and power. It's just that nobody seemed to glom onto what a head this guy was until he -gasp!- did drugs?? Feh.
