| That's bull, IMO. GIF = Graphics Interchange Format. The word "Graphics" has a hard G sound, so GIF should as well, and I will continue to refer to them that way :o |

The problem is that this is not how language works. As far as the pronunciation of words is concerned, it's really "vox populi, vox dei". Same with meaning, reason Google and Adobe can't stop people from using "Google" and "Photoshop" as verbs. |
