Anxiety meds and emotions/productions?

Was wondering if people had any experiences with anti anxiety meds, I'll be taking them soon, I have had some pretty bad anxiety for the last 3 months(overall few years) and have been putting off taking and meds, but im tired of the metaphysical symptoms(mainly my heart), makes me panic and such sometimes.

Was wondering though, will meds drain my emotion and ability to express? I've been prescribed some cyrpolazim or something like that before but I didnt take it, but enough is enough now. I ask this because music is a very important part of my life. Appreciate it. I also realized, my music really depressive haha.

What if its some chemical imbalance that I cannot control, my sister has schizophrenia, I feel genetics may have left me something, not quite that drastic though. Im not very educated on this subject.

Have you tried other options? I'm with Geoff - I would make sure that you've explored other avenues before deciding on the meds. Doctors today are quick to just medicate every ailment they see, mostly because the pharmaceutical companies make it worth their while. I don't know anything about anxiety meds, but it sounds like something that you will be on for life, so it's not a decision to make lightly. Hope it all works out for you, though. That sucks.

Meditate then overdose.

depends on the kind of anxiety and the kind of medication.

I've been on benzodiazapines for 6 years. I meditate, exercise, don't drink alcohol or coffee. My anxiety is what you would call generalized anxiety and is not triggered by an automatic thought and very hard to treat without medication. Normally you would use an SSRI but those never worked for me. I think the reason has to do with already high levels of serotonin which newer research has found in people with "asspergers" which is technically no longer in the DSM so lets just say i'm on the retard spectrum.

If it is bad for just 3 months, then i would try to find why. Medication is really something you don't want to be on unless it is a last resort. Even SSRI's which they will put you on first before anything are just not fun even if they do work.

So ya, unless you are doing everything you can , don't drink the water. And if you are going to be put on meds, make sure it is a pyschiatrist and make sure you are taking for GAD and make sure you are being followed at least every 2 weeks. And the second he starts trying to make you go thru the SSRI SNRI canon, re evaluate your situation. The efficacy of these medications are related to which one you try first and the therapy you have at the same time. Basically , there is a rather high placebo effect.

also heart issues are not metaphysical. That is a pretty good sign something is not right. So ya, if you are not exercising and meditation, then start there. But check your heart out first.

Appreciate the advice, the 2 doctors i've seen were hesitant on giving me any medication once I brought up anxiety which seems like a good sign, but the doctor from before just threw out the prescription quickly, so im thankful I didnt get those meds.

I do honestly think I've had these symptoms on and off for about 2 years or so, sometimes they get bad, this year its been at its peak, too many physical symptoms, like my cheeks going numb, legs going numb, heart is going wonky. Im trying to raise my energy levels and exercise more. The doc said by b12 levels were really low so im sorting that out as well.

Im getting tests on my heart tomorrow, first ecg then the echo. I have used drugs in the past and this could definitely be damage.

sleep regular hours, don't eat refined sugar, drink tea, exercise and stay away from alcohol pot and rave drugs. Not only will your abs shine but everything will be better. Just don't be too crazy about being healthy. Try not to date jewish girls.

and anxiety won't change the emotive quality of your music. Anxiety and depression are related but not really in that way. If you are scared to turn your computer on, that would be anxiety. If you are making sad music, you need to suck it up princess.

Chemical imbalance as a cause is mostly a myth. It often happens as a result of stress or worry due to the way the body fires out chemicals when you're worried/stressed/overthinking/depressed/tired.

Go here and buy a months membership (10 bucks or something). Then decide if you want to go down the medication route.

I agree with L4C though, it must be an absolute last resort imo.

Meditation is actually a magic bullet. Read up on mindfulness and breathing meditation, and understand that it requires effort and practise.

Oh, and B12 deficiency can cause anxiety symptoms.

Oh, and try CBT if you get it/afford it.

One more suggestion -> try acupuncture, some times would do miracles.

And yes meditation combine with enough sleep will/should help slowly (over the time) eliminate your symptoms.

ya, don't do acupuncture or any other pseudo science. There is no evidence what so ever and the only thing you are paying for is a placebo. Don't waste your time. The effects of meditation can be seen while doing it. It will activate parts in your pre frontal cortex with just 3 sessions of 5 minutes. Lots of data to back that up. But acupuncture like ginseng and all those bull homeopathic "medicines" are a waste of time and money. And i mean it is just embarrassing.

Yeah, I wouldn't comment if I didn't use it myself, ultimately hi will have to make some choice if he doesn't want to take any serious med - I would say -> first let him try/experience this and then he can make conscious decision about it.

Cheers
