... so he kindly stole my car :(

While I was teaching at university tonight, someone nicked my good old Uno. It was nearly 20 years old, I don't see why anyone else would even want to have it, let alone steal it. I just hope they return it (it's not uncommon around here).

Has this happened to any of you? What was it like?

Damn, that sucks man :( Are you insured for theft?
Lira
Hopefully, yes. It's time to read the small print and see if the conditions apply :(

Friends 89 civic sedan was jacked while we were at work one day, we used to park next to each other and were walking back at the end of the day and I got to my car and I go "uh didn't you park back there?" (we had got to work at the same time that day) and he goes "oh... yea I must have missed it" and he goes back down the block and I get in my car and pull out and head down the block towards him and he is just standing there confused. Rolled down the window and he goes "I think someone jacked my car..." Had to drive him out to his grandmas to borrow a car of hers. It showed up a few days later like 20 miles away. Someone just took it for a joyride, probably robbed a convenience store or something with it and then ditched it. Nothing was ripped off (he had stock stereo) but they tore threw all his (he had his girlfriends laundry in there haha and it was all over the car).

My dads 88 accord was jacked and joy ridden too. Reeked of pot when we got it back, he just traded it in and bought a new car (was a good excuse, he had driven that thing into the ground, had 200k+ miles on it in less than 10 years).

Those are the only ones I can think of.

My 86 corona was stolen and taken for a joyride. Completely ed it. broke off all the knobs inside so you couldn’t indicate or turn other on etc.

Motherers stole my “mobile operations” bong, too.

car was written off and with the insurance money i bought a brand new PC lol.

guys, this is Brazil we're talking about. taking a car for a 'joy ride' only happens in the first world. in Brazil when they take something, its probably because they need it more and aren't returning it.

sorry for your loss but maybe its time your wife's parent paid her dowry.

Actually, joyrides are quite common around here - the only other professor we know who had her cars nicked (twice!) always got her car back... though she was afraid it may have been used for illegal purposes, and sold them after getting them back.

The car is economically worthless - it's nearly 20 years old, the stereo is older than me (no, really!), and it wasn't even working properly :p

how did you manage to play big clob in your car then?:conf:
Lira
It's always been a dream of mine. To spin big clob cruising around Brasilia :(

(I just tend to listen to lectures/audiobooks)

Yea when I was a kid we had a 1983 Subaru. My dad kept it in impeccable condition. In 1998 it was stolen from a train station parking lot. I think what upset us more than the fact that it was stolen was that we couldn't understand why the hell somebody would steal such an old car.

Neighbor had a like 68 mustang fastback that he had been working on a bit and was in really good condition, but wasn't drivable. Someone actually came in with a tow truck and stole it. Turned out there was a classic car stealing ring going on, and it was mainly to suit one guy who had this big collection and he'd steal other cars for parts solely for his collection.

He got the car back but it was gutted, I think the entire drive train was gone, engine was gone...

Crazy .

So many people used to try to steal my '93 Civic back when I lived in Seattle, even tried to do it right out of our driveway one night. It did get stolen once; my parents were out of town and I drove my brother and his friend up to see a movie. During the movie I had an odd feeling about my car, and, lo and behold it wasn't there when we got out (like an idiot, I left the club that my parents bought unused in the backseat). We ended up finding it a few days later, in perfect condition. Amusingly, however, they did steal the club when they dumped it.
