Underrated Effects

We can't have an "underrated synths" thread without a complementary thread for underrated or little-known effects. Software or hardware, doesn't matter. Let us know about your secret FX weapons.
I'll start with Obelisk from Artificial Audio. It's a very cool real-time spectral effects processor that lets you break up your incoming audio into up to 1024 frequency bands and add effects (delay, feedback, filter, and gate) to any group of frequency bands by drawing in the levels, clicking to add nodes, and dragging them around. The interface is very visual and intuitive, but very powerful. Every node can be modulated in X and Y directions using three LFOs with five target nodes each.

Not heard of that one, definitely worth a try!
I think the one I think is most underrated is actually a collection that's priced like a single plugin and that's Uhbik.
For Runciter alone it's worth the money, but everything in it is good, even the reverb.

It's surprising how few people have heard of it because it's such a cool plugin. The only downside is that it's still 32-bit on PC. When I bought it a few years ago, I asked the developer about 64-bit and he said that he wasn't planning on it. But, then he surprised us last fall when he announced that he was working on 64-bit versions, and released the 64-bit AU public beta earlier this year. No idea when the PC version will be done, though. |

hmmm... this is a bit harder for me to think of compared to an underrated synth, most FX and processing plugs I use are pretty well known, ie Soundtoys, Fabfilter, Softube, Lexicon, Eventide and also the Uhbiks already mentioned.
I'll go out on a limb and say Absynth, yes I realise it's a synth, but I do tend to use it more as an FX processor than as a synth, can get some crazy results. Also the Reaktor ensemble FastFX is underrated imo.
Obelisk does look very interesting. :toocool: |

Which Eventide do you use? I think Blackhole is pretty underrated. It gets mentioned occasionally on gearslutz and KVR, but I almost never see it mentioned outside of those two forums.

Yes, the Blackhole reverb. I love how its easy GUI and modulation work and more importantly, the sound! From my understanding, the original blackhole presets from the older Eventide units were quite revered amongst producers from back in the day, hence they designed the plug-in based solely from that one preset. If I had money to burn I'd probably grab the H3000 plug in too, but I don't really feel that I need it. |

@Looney4Clooney could a Melda bundle substitute expensive Waves plugins? |
|

sure. Your native DAW effects could also do that. |

call me crazy but the built-in Ableton Reverb is arguably the best software reverb I have ever heard. |

Obelisk looks cool. Their Quartz effect looks interesting too. Anybody have it? |
